Li Abstract A catalogue of the family Sesiidae in China is provided based partially on the research of the previous literature and partially on the study of the specimens in our collection. Such fundamental understanding provides a basis for developing strategies to manipulate the pest’s behaviour, distribution, and population dynamics, to be employed for crop protection. This review focuses on the fundamental knowledge required for the development of an effective push-pull approach. Push-pull is a strategy to repel a pest from a crop, while attracting it toward an external location. It often relies on infochemicals (e.g., pheromones or allelochemicals) that are relevant in the ecology of the pest insect and can be exploited as lure or repellent. Importantly, responsiveness of insects to infochemicals is dependent on both the insect’s internal physiological state and external environmental conditions. This context-dependency reflects the integration of cues from different sensory modalities, the effect of mating and/or feeding status, as well as diurnal or seasonal rhythms. Furthermore, when the costs of responding to an infochemical outweigh the benefits, resistance can rapidly evolve. -
Data on Cerambycidae and Chrysomelidae (Coleoptera: Chrysomeloidea) from Bucureªti and Surroundings

The paper presents a synthesis of the data refering to the presence of cerambycids and chrysomelids species of Bucharest and its surroundings, basing on bibliographical sources and the study of the collection material. A number of 365 species of superfamily Chrysomeloidea (140 cerambycids and 225 chrysomelids species), belonging to 125 genera of 16 subfamilies are listed. The species Chlorophorus herbstii, Clytus lama, Cortodera femorata, Phytoecia caerulea, Lema cyanella, Chrysolina varians, Phaedon cochleariae, Phyllotreta undulata, Cassida prasina and Cassida vittata are reported for the first time in this area. Résumé. Ce travail présente une synthèse des données concernant la présence des espèces de cerambycides et de chrysomelides de Bucarest et de ses environs, la base en étant les sources bibliographiques ainsi que l’étude du matériel existant dans les collections du musée. La liste comprend 365 espèces appartenant à la supra-famille des Chrysomeloidea (140 espèces de cerambycides et 225 espèces de chrysomelides), encadrées en 125 genres et 16 sous-familles. Abstract: Nasonovia ribisnigri (Mosely) is one of the most important pests of the lettuce plant and it was reported for the first time in Ahvaz in 2008. In order to investigate the dominant species of its natural enemies and their population fluctuations, sample were taken arbitrarily from fifty plants twice a week during the growing season in 2010-2012. In this study, ten species of predators, three species of parasitoids and two species of hyperparasitoids were collected and identified. Hoverflies with a relative frequency of 55% were the dominant predators. Peaks of lacewings and subsequently ladybird beetles were more coincident with peaks of aphid population in mid-March in the first year of studies. But their densities in the second year were very low. Also, hoverflies and parasitoids were mainly observed in the high densities in late March-early April, in both years. Regression analysis indicated that populations of aphids were mainly affected by ladybird beetles and lacewings in the first year of study, as well as by ladybird beetles, hoverflies and parasitoids in the second year. Therefore, additional studies are required for further evaluation on the potential abilities of these natural enemies being a good candidates for the future biological control programs. -

Acquisition of Las by D. citri appears to be variable, and this variability may be due to the suitability of the host plants and their tissues for acquisition. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of symptom severity of the disease on the feeding behaviour of D. citri. Use of an electrical penetration graph showed that the pathway phase of D. citri consisted of four waveforms, A, B, C, and D; wave- forms A and B have not been reported for D. citri before. The remaining waveforms, E1, E2, and G, conform to those described before for D. citri. The duration of the non-penetration period did not differ between healthy or infected plants. However, in moderately and severely symptomatic plants, the duration of the pathway phase increased, whereas the phloem phase was shorter. -

Five noctuid species are recorded from Europe for the first time: Eublemma conistrota Hampson, 1910, Eiiblemma deserti Rothschild, 1909, Anumeta hilgerti (Rothschild 1909), Hadiila deserticula (Hampson 1905), and Eiixoa canariensis Rebel, 1902. New synonyms are stated: Leptosia velocissima f. tarda Turati, 1926, syn. n. and Leptosia griseimargo Warren, 1912, syn. n., both synonyms of Metachrostis velox (Hübner, 1813); and Pseudohadena (Eremohadena) roseonitens espugnensis Lajonquiere, 1964, syn. n., a synonym of P. (E.) roseonitens roseonitens (Oberthür, 1887). A new subspecies of Xylena exsoleta (Linneaus, 1758), Xylena exsoleta maltensis ssp. n., is established. The literature on Maltese Noctuoidea is reviewed and erronuousely reported species are indicated. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The adult females of two new species of Diaspididae (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) are described and placed in Anzaspis Henderson (previously only known from New Zealand): A. neocordylinidis Łagowska & Hodgson and A. pandani Łagowska & Hodgson. The former is close to A. cordylinidis (Maskell), currently only known from New Zealand and found on the same host plant species, and the latter is very close to Chionaspis pandanicola Williams & Watson, only currently known from Fiji, and also collected on the same host plant species. Two previously described Chionaspis species already known from Fiji, i.e. C. freycinetiae Williams & Watson and C. pandanicola Williams & Watson are transferred to Anzaspis as Anzaspis freycinetiae (Williams & Watson) comb. nov. and A. pandanicola (Williams & Watson) comb. nov., and a third species, C. rhaphidophorae Williams & Watson, is transferred to Serenaspis as Serenaspis rhaphidophorae (Williams & Watson) comb. nov.. The reasons for these nomenclatural decisions and the relationship between the scale insect fauna of Fiji and New Zealand are discussed. A key is provided to all related species in the tropical South Pacific and New Zealand.
