Mandate

The overall mandate of the KVK is to develop and disseminate location specific technological modules at district level through Technology Assessment, Refinement and Demonstration and to act as Knowledge and Resource Centre for agriculture and its allied activities. The specific activities to carry out this mandate are:

 Conducting on-farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems

 Organizing frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of various crops and enterprises on the farmers’ fields

 Organizing need based training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies related to technology assessment, refinement and demonstration, and training of extension personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development.

 Creating awareness about improved technologies to larger masses through appropriate extension programmes

 Production and supply of good quality seeds and planting materials, livestock, poultry and fisheries breeds and products and various bio-products to the farming community.

 Work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.

 World Soil Health Day Programme – 05.12.2018

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Vellore organized the World Soil Health Day at KVK premises on 05.12.2018. The programme was chaired by the Joint Director of Agriculture, Vellore with other officials of agriculture department along with scientists Dr.T.Dinakaran and Dr.M.Lavanya from Agricultural Research Station, Virinjipuram. During the presidential address the Joint Director of Agriculture highlighted the importance of in enhancing crop productivity to the farmers, followed by which the farmers were issued soil health cards and the delegates released now publication highlighting the importance of micronutrients symptoms and their management practices. As part of the programme a lecture on importance of soil nutrients and problem soil management delivered. Agricultural Research Station Soil Scientist Dr.M.Lavanya. To benefit the farmers, flim show on mobile based app for soil test was screened and demonstrated the use of tensiometer to assess soil moisture and mobile soil testing kit. The farmers were also given hand on training on soil sample collection and production of enriched farm yard manure by KVK Scientists. Apart from these demonstrations, the exhibition showcasing various nutrient deficiency symptoms and their management was organized by KVK for benefit of Vellore Districts farmers. A technical knowledge sharing session was organized in collaboration with Coromandel fertilizers and the Regional Manager briefed the importance of judicious and balanced used of fertilizers to restore natural soil health.

 Parthenium Awareness Week – 16.08.2018 to 22.08.2018 In-order to create awareness on the hazardous effect of parthenium to human beings and livestock a special awareness campaign on parthenium was organized KVK, Virinjipuram. The awareness campaign was conducted at various places by demonstrating the physical and chemicals methods of eradicating parthenium and by issuing literatures. The recipients were farmers, school children’s and rural youths. The awareness programmes were organized in the presence of block level officers of Agriculture Departments and Educational Institutions.  Mahila Kisan Diwas Programme – 15.10.2018

In view of respecting and encouraging women in the field of agriculture, Mahila Kisan Diwas programme was organized at KVK Virinjipuram with 51 progressive rural women farmers. The participants were enlightened with the role and responsibilities of farm women in nation development .As part of the event, an elocution competition and quiz competition were organized during the programme and the winners were awarded with prizes for their performances.

 Awareness Programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights

One day ATARI sponsored web-telecast on 'Krishi Unnati Mela IARI' was organized at KVK Vellore on 17.03.2018 for farmers. The objective of this programme was to facilitate a programme to farmers. A total of 212 farmers representing various Blocks of Vellore district participated in the interaction and webcasting programme and were provided hands-on exposure to handle ICT tools for delivering farm technologies. As part of the training programme, an exclusive Multipoint Video Conferencing session with 59 sub centers (ARS & KVK) of TNAU was scheduled with DEE , TNAU as a pilot activity to witness the effectiveness and delivery mechanism of new android enabled mobile based videoconferencing app called Vidyo.

As all KVKs are asked to arrange for viewing of the web-telecast of the address by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on 17th March, 2018 in the Krishi Unnati Mela 2018 at ICAR-IASRI, a separate event category 'Krishi Unnati Mela IARI' has been created in the KVK Portal. All KVKs are requested to capture and report the related information in the portal so that a consolidated report can be prepared on this particular event like Sankalp se Siddhi, World Soil Day which are already available in the portal. In this regard, please find an one page self explanatory instruction manual which is attached herewith.
