The paper presents in brief a diagnostic analysis of the agricultural population of the Dolj County, Romania, identifying the needs of this population with a view to local socio-economic development in accordance with EU goals: balanced regional development and improved general living conditions. Key words: diagnostic analysys, population, agriculture, rural INTRODUCTION Located in south-west Romania, the Dolj County lies between 40,000’ and 44,030’ north latitude and 22,000’ and 23,000’ east longitude; the River Jiu crosses it from north to south. The Dolj County covers 7,414 km2; its neighbours are the counties of Gorj and Valcea to the north, the Old County to the east, the Mehedinţi County to the west, and the River Danube to the south (border with Bulgaria). MATERIAL AND METHODS To achieve the diagnostic analysis of the agricultural population of the Dolj County, we had in view the present state of the county agriculture (mainly vegetal and animal productions), the demographics of the county’s population and, within the rural population, rural development, rural potential, and social factors. To do so, we used statistics from both local and national sources (National Institute of Statistics, The Strategy of Socio-economic Development of the Dolj County for the Period 2007-2013). RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Agriculture The Dolj County over 3.1% of the total area of the country and 3.9% of the total agricultural land of the country.

    TOPONYMS OF DOLJ COUNTY Loredana POPESCU (MA student) University of Craiova Abstract The analysis of Dolj county toponyms concerns the structure, the behaviour of entopics, as well as homonymy. The grammatical aspects (articles, plural forms) and the origin of certain toponyms are important for the study of the Romanian language and for marking foreign influences in the south of the country. The comments on the social characteristics of ethnonyms highlight the documentary value of Dolj county toponyms. Key words : structure , toponym , compound , derivative , entopic Résumé Par l’analyse de la structure des toponymes de Dolj on a mis en évidence la composition, la dérivation avec des suffixes, l’homonymie, les entopiques, la graphie. Les observations relatives aux caractéristiques sociales des ethnonymes sont importantes pour la valeur documentaire des toponymes de Dolj. Dans le cadre des composés, le plus grand nombre d’occurrences est détenu par les toponymes formés des substantifs et d’adjectifs. Les aspects grammaticaux (l’articulation, les formes de pluriel) et l’origine de certains toponymes sont importants pour étudier la langue roumaine et pour marquer les influences étrangères au Sud du pays. Mots-clés : structure , toponyme , composé , dérivé , entopique The research of toponyms from various angles is important for the history and evolution of the Romanian language, for acquiring better knowledge of its vocabulary and etymology. It equally involves the relationship between literary language and popular language, dialects. Iorgu Iordan mentions the fact that “the place names of a certain region can be structured from different standpoints, according to the preoccupations of the one researching them. The way they come into being, as well as the role they play in the life of a people are of great interest to geographers, historians, ethnologists and linguists” 1.

Located in southern Romania, in the Oltenia region, Dolj County is a very fruitful and attractive tourist area, with many attractions for tourists. In order to promote the objectives and tourist attractions from Dolj County, we have presented in this study the ones that should not be missed by a tourist in this area, including the Craiova Art Museum, the Amza Pellea Memorial House, The Roman Castro from Răcarii de Jos, Segarcea wine cellar, Cetate Port, special reservations such as the Paleontological one from Bucovăț, the one Wild Peonies from Plenița, or the Ciuperceni Ornithological Reservation. (1) (1) Université de Bucarest, Faculté de Géographie, 1 rue Nicolae B ălcescu, 010041, Bucarest, Roumanie [[email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]] Résumé - Cette étude a pour but d’identifier les tendances hydroclimatiques durant la période 1961-2009 et la relation entre la variation de certains paramètres climatiques et hydrologiques, dans le sud-ouest de la Roumanie. Pour l’analyse des tendances, nous avons utilisé les tests statistiques Mann-Kendall/Sen’s slope, et pour l’évaluation des correlations, les tests Spearman et Student. Les résultats montrent une augmentation générale des valeurs annuelles du déficit climatique d’humidité, responsable d’une diminution générale des écoulements. À l’échelle saisonnière, la même situation se retrouve au printemps, en hiver et en été, tandis qu’en automne, la situation est généralement opposée. Les corrélations statistiques ont indiqué, en général, une liaison relativement étroite entre les paramètres hydroclimatiques ; les situations avec des corrélations faibles peuvent être expliquées par l’action d’autres facteurs (particulièrement anthropiques) qui ont influencé les écoulements dans les dernières décennies. Mots-clés : tendances, paramètres hydroclimatiques, Mann-Kendall, Sen’s slope, corrélations, le sud-ouest de la Roumanie. The declaration aims at identifying along the Danube the former wetlands that have a high ecological potential and may be subject to flooding from the economic and planning point of view. About 700 lakes covering 980 km 2 lie in the Danube Floodplain. Thus, along the entire Lower Danube, 17 major wetlands were identified, and in case of Romania there are proposed 7 major areas showing an appropriate economic potential, known under various toponyms: Pond Nedeia (between Bistret and Bechet ); Potelu Pond (between Bechet and Corabia); Suhaia Pond (between Turnu Măgurele and Zimnicea); Greaca Pond (between Olteniţa and Giurgiu); Călăraşi Pond; Lower Prut Floodplain; Pardina Polder (between Chilia and Sulina). These areas have various potential effects, such as: to mitigate the flood impact; to provide a favourable environment for pisciculture; to generate local social, economic and ecological effects. This work tackles several aspects relating to the types of potential and the expected effects for certain surveyed wetlands in the Danube Floodplain, namely Bistreţ Polder and Zaghen Lake.
