Ashley Furniture manufactures and distributes home furniture products worldwide. [3] Ashley Furniture Industries sells home goods and accessories available through two distribution channels: independent furniture dealers and more than 700 Ashley Furniture HomeStore retail furniture stores, which are independently owned and operated by licensees in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and Japan. [4] It has manufacturing and distribution facilities in Wisconsin, Mississippi, California (only manufacturing remains closed in the 2016 distribution facility), Indiana, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, China, and Vietnam. History Caryl Weinberger established as the sale operation of Ashley Furniture in Chicago in 1945. Specializing in wooden occasional furniture, Ashley marketed goods made by local companies. The company later opened a branch in Goshen, Indiana. In 1970, Ashley invested in Wisconsin-based Arcadia furniture founded by Ronald G. Vanek. When Wanek moved to Arcadia to open his factory he took with him Eugene Vogel's son, Chuck. The two started doing production work for Ashley Furniture. Although Arcadia started out as a small production plant for Ashley Lines in 1976, Wanek and the group of investors bought Weinberger, taking control of Ashley's furniture. Previously both companies maintained their distinct identities, with Arcadia focusing on Ashley on production and sales. By 1982, the merged company's annual sales had reached $12 million and it moved from Chicago to Arcadia to its corporate headquarters. By the mid-1980s, Ashley offered a line of nearly 350 different furniture products, and away from its design and manufacturing had turned toward legacy pieces aimed at middle-income buyers. The company's growing network included small retailers plus Levitt furniture and large-scale retailers such as Sers, Kmart and Montgomery Ward. By 1985, sales had exceeded $44 million. In 1994 Ashley acquired upholstery manufacturer Sklar-Peppler, and by the late 1990s the company was operating assembly and distribution plants in Seattle, Washington; Pomona, California; New Brunswick, New Jersey; and Orlando, Florida. Gambling that speed furniture was a strong The area, Ashley acquired Gentry Furniture of Ripley, Mississippi, in 1999. That same year the company also branched out into retail sales, licensing Ashley Furniture HomeStores to independent dealers. The chain grew to nearly 40 stores in its first year. [5] By 2000, Ashley Furniture Industries employed more people in Arcadia than the city's population. The plant in Arcadia had grown from 35,000 square feet (3,300 m2) to 1,500,000 square feet (140,000 m2) in 1970. In 2015, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined Ashley $1.7 million due to unsafe working conditions at its Arcadia plant that caused workers more than 1000 injuries. [6] Today the company maintains plants across the United States and also operates several factories (including its largest) in Pacific Rim countries such as Vietnam and China. They also have sourcing offices in India, Vietnam, southern China, Muyar (Malaysia's furniture hub) and Taiwan. He spoke about his viewpoint on the ill effects of the Porter Ranch Gas Leak. RAfter the incident in late 2015, Nordella “watched as the leaders (medical groups, state utility commissions, city, county) did nothing.” He began the fi rst part of his study in January 2016, and after spending a year on it, he started a new investigative study in January 2017. “I’m just trying to do what I think is right,” Nordella said. Recently, many people have expressed their concerns regarding how plaintiff attorneys are handling these matters. Nordella wishes to have more communication and collaboration with them. “It is tough to say… because I personally don’t know how they are handling matters. Unfortunately, I have only had a little bit of communication with them. I am not retained by any fi rm or lawyers at this time to do any work. I do not mean it to insult anybody. I just want to stay neutral… To the respect of the plaintiff attorneys, I hope and believe that they also have experts looking at this as well… I just wish there was more collaboration,” Nordella said. Nordella also mentioned his suspicions regarding the rising rates of the “Future” California Governor community’s illness.
