Comedian Lewis Black Brings Stressed Out Standup to Cal Poly Oct. 18

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- No matter the stupidity, the illogic or the injustice, popular stand-up comic Lewis Black - one of the most indignant, exasperated men in America - will expound upon it all on Friday, October 18, 2002 at 8 p.m. at the Christopher Cohan Center.

Cal Poly Arts presents Black, well-known for his weekly acerbic "Back In Black" commentator spotlights on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."

Educated at Yale, Black's gift for storytelling led him to a career as an actor and playwright. In Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen, Black ran the West Bank Café Downstairs Theatre Bar for eight years, where he continued to write, produce, and perform while showcasing new talent.

It was his work in New York that brought Black to the attention of critics and audiences throughout the country, where he now plays the biggest comedy clubs and is one of the most sought-after headliners on the college circuit. He also is the winner of the American Comedy Award for "Viewers' Choice Stand-Up Comic."

Black 's film work includes Woody Allen's "Hannah and Her Sisters," "Jacob's Ladder," and "The Night We Never Met;" on television, he guest-starred on "Homicide," "Mad About You," and "Law and Order." He is currently developing a new series for Castle Rock Entertainment and along with his Wednesday night harangues on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," Black appears regularly on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien."
