PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: The very heart of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church is present on the altar. Our mission, born at that altar, is to be sent forth into our neighborhood in order to build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed more than in word the needs of our people.

St. Matthew Parish has resumed public Masses. Our Guidelines follow the Archdiocesan protocol. Weekday Masses have returned to the Parish Office / Rectory. The Archbishop’s dispensation for attending Sunday Mass and Holy Days remains.

We enter up the handicap ramp between the Church and the Parish Office / Rectory. Our temperature is taken and masks must be worn. Then each person will be directed to a place to sit. Masks remain on throughout the service. There are no processions in the Church.

Directions are given for receiving communion and on how to exit the Church. The Parish Office / Rectory / Family Center are not open for meetings and social gatherings are prohibited. These Guidelines help us remain well in mind, body and spirit.

All are welcome to return using the established guidelines and protocols.

Earth Day, Thursday, April 22, 2021

As we gather in praise and thanksgiving for Creation, offered to each of us by our Creator, let us call to mind how we depend upon and care for our common home:

 How do we return to the Earth the love, care and life we have received from it?  How can we better attend to the needs of one another by attending to creation? Laudato Si, Francis

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light. We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace. Amen.
