Grassroots Arnica Group

To Homeopathy Today readers: Wouldn’t you love to get to know people who are interested in building their family’s immunity naturally so you can share experiences, support one another, and get great free advice? A few months ago I stumbled upon a wonderful Facebook Group called Arnica, which aims to empower and support parents by providing opportunities for like-minded folk to meet. Arnica started life as a grassroots UK movement of local groups in 2009. Parents and health professionals now meet together every day online (www.facebook.com/groups/arnica/),______and also face-to-face in up to 100 UK towns, to discuss natural immunity and vaccination concerns. I have spoken with the facilitators of Arnica UK and they have kindly said we may bring the idea to the US, initially set- ting up an Arnica US Facebook page where people can post their Seasons Greetings questions and later inviting people to facilitate local meetings in their area. If you are a homeopath or a parent and you’d With gratitude for your continued support, we like to get the Arnica US ball rolling, please contact me at: extend our warmest wishes for a [email protected]______Healthy, Happy New Year! Dreams… we all have them—those mys- terious movies of the night. But what do they mean? Can they help us in any way? Some people say dreams are just our brains processing and discharging the events of the day. Others believe them to be valuable messages from the unconscious, from the spirit world, from deceased relatives, or from God. Increasingly, however, researchers agree that dreams play an important role in maintaining our emotional and mental well-being. Dreams have an interesting place in the world of homeopathy these days, too. Some homeopaths pay close attention to their clients’ dream reports, giving them paramount importance in remedy selec- tion. Others pay no attention to their clients’ dreams whatsoever. Still others may profess the importance of dreams in choosing a remedy, yet they have no idea what to do with a dream once it has been reported to them. Many modern homeopathic prov- ing reports are full of dream-derived material, with the “themes” of these newly-proven remedies identifi ed from feelings and situations in the provers’ dreams. Consequently, the “Dreams” section in the “Mind” chapter of our repertories expands with every update— yet many homeopaths never bother to look at it. What is going on? Why such a muddle? In my 26 years of practice as a homeo- path and therapist, I have noticed this very same inconsistency in the world of psychotherapy. Some therapists never even ask about their clients’ dreams; while for others, dreams are indeed the

Be a Dream Catcher! 3 TIPS FOR CATCHING YOUR DREAMS We all dream, but some of us have trouble remembering our dreams. Try one or more of these techniques to improve your dream recall. 1. Set your intention. Whatever we pay more attention to, we will get more of. When you go to bed at night, tell yourself that you intend to remember your dreams in the morning. 2. Allow time to drift up to the surface in the morning. It is very diffi cult to remember a dream if you are jarred out of bed by an alarm clock. As many mornings as you can, allow yourself the luxury of drifting slowly awake, lingering on the “shoreline” between sleep and waking, between your unconscious and conscious minds. This half in/half out state is when you will have the best chance to recall your dreams. In this state, you can practice “going back in” to the dream and retrieving more details. 3. Anchor the dream before it drifts away. Many people remember a dream vividly in the morning, only to fi nd that a few hours later they have completely lost it! This is because they did not anchor or store the dream securely in their long-term memory. Anchoring is different for different people—some people need to write the dream down in their bedside journal, some need to speak it out loud, and some need to go over it a few times in their mind. Find out what you need to do to anchor your dreams, and start doing it. Tip: If you don’t want to fully awaken to anchor your dream, quickly jot down 3 key words, or draw a simple graphic, before drifting back.

Your Will Won’t Work Well When . . .

1. It’s Out-of-Date. How old is your will? Have you reviewed it in the last three years? If not, chances are it could use some attention. A number of personal factors can affect your will: things like changes in income, employ- ment, family size or marital status. External factors such as new federal or state laws can also require the revision of your will. Have any of the following things occurred in the last few years? Move to another state Desire to change guardian New business venture More grandchildren Children less dependent Change in giving interests Death in family Job promotion Serious illness in family Purchase of life insurance Marriage or divorce New out-of-state property Birth of child Purchase of home Executor can’t serve More property in joint names Trustee can’t serve Major change in fi nances

2. It’s Legally Invalid. Your will can contain all the information you think you want, and not be worth the paper it’s written on. This is more likely to be true if your will is old, or if you tried to cut corners by using generic forms from a stationery store. A will can be invalid if it is unsigned or witnessed improperly. There’s just no substitute for having a competent attorney involved. In the short run, it may cost you a bit more, but it will certainly provide greater peace of mind and possibly deliver your survivors from a nightmare.

3. It Confl icts With Other Plans. Your will should be coordinated with your other estate transfer documents. For example, insurance proceeds and brokerage accounts pass outside the will to the named benefi ciaries. Pension funds are also distributed outside the will. A will that truly works well will take all of these other assets into consideration.

4. It Fails to Fulfi ll Your Desires. Your will should accomplish exactly what you want. Do you want your children to receive their inheritance all at once, or at various intervals? Do you want your charitable gifts to be used for unrestricted purposes, or do you want to earmark the funds to meet specifi c needs? Do you want to give NCH a percentage of your estate, or a set amount? Perhaps you didn’t know all the options when you signed your will. Later, you discovered other ways to make your bequests. You may feel dissatisfi ed with your will. It may work as a legal document but fail to work well as the expres- sion of your true desires. Is it time to redo your will? If so, we urge you to make an appointment with your attorney as soon as possible. You should be satisfi ed and confi dent about your estate plan.

If you’d like more information about designating the National Center for Homeopathy as a benefi ciary of your estate, please contact Anita Parker at (703) 506-7667 or [email protected].______

This remedy is often needed in both the town and outreach clinics. sOlea europea (European olive): very useful in cases of malnutrition and frequently helps to re-stimulate appetite. This remedy is often indicated for children who have been orphaned (compare to Magnesium carbonicum). sOncorhynchus tshawytscha (Pacifi c salmon): indicated in cases of hormonal disruption, tubercular states, and dry, fl akey, itching skin. It is often used to help women with HIV/AIDS return to better health. sCryptococcus neoformans (a genus of fungus): often helps the fungal infections that plague people with AIDS. 30 Homeopathy TODAY • HomeopathyCenter.org In addition, the remedy Ozone, recently proven by Anna Schadde of Winter 2014 Germany, is frequently useful for Kaposi’s sarcoma.

Gut Feelings Ever lose your appetite when you’re excited? Have to visit the bathroom more often when you’re nervous before a big event? Get “that funny feeling in your gut” when you’re worried? Then it should come as no surprise that your gut and brain are strongly linked—neural connections between them abound. Only the brain and spinal column boast more nerve fi bers than the gastrointestinal tract. So a gut reaction to stress or emotional upset is normal, but people with IBS tend to have stronger-than- average reactions. That’s why proven stress-relievers like hypnotherapy, relaxation techniques, and regular exercise can help relieve IBS symptoms, as can professional homeopathic treatment, since it addresses the whole person—body, mind, and emotions. Other measures that sometimes soothe a sensitive IBS sufferer’s digestive tract include: taking high-quality probiotics; adding soluble fi ber to the diet rather than insoluble fi ber (some swear by acacia fi ber); taking enteric-coated peppermint capsules for pain and cramping; and reducing foods that may trigger symptoms. (The FODMAPs diet, developed at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, suggests reducing foods high in sugar, fructose, lactose, mannitol, xylitol, and galactans—see www.ibsdiets.org for details.)
