2 Minutes of previous AGM – December 2017 2.1 Proposed as a correct record by Rich Moss Seconded by Dave Peate.

3 3.1 Matters Arising It was noted that there were no actions from the previous minutes.

4 4.1 Announcement of New Committee Members AM explained that the following committee members were standing down:

5 Directors and Chairs Report

5.1 HR updated attendees on a review of 2018, explaining that BAFTA Cymru had celebrated 30 years in 2018 and that the operating budget had increased year on year. HR introduced the 6 members of the BAFTA Cymru team, noting that the branch structure would remain the same for 2019.

5.2 AM noted that the team deserve recognition for their achievements for 2018, and confirmed that the committee structure would remain the same for the year ahead. AM noted that the income streams had increased through the events and membership. AM added that the Awards were a high quality event, with entries increasing year on year. AM explained that actor Luke Evans had been announced as BAFTA Cymru’ s Ambassador for the Learning and New Talent Programme, during an ‘An Audience with Luke Evans’ event in Cardiff’s National Museum of in November.

5.3 HR noted that the membership had increased to its highest level in 30 years and now stands at 839 members. HR ran through the membership stats breakdown, noting that the student memberships had increased greatly due to a positive relationship with the University of creative faculty. HR discussed the breakdown of female members; Full 36%, Associate 39%, with Branch and Career Starter slightly higher, adding that the overall split was male 56%, female 44% this was an increase on the previous year. HR added that female representation would continue to be a focus through the events programme. HR noted that the events programme would continue to cover North and Mid-Wales.

5.4 AM offered an overview of the events programme, explaining there had been 119 events held in 2018, reaching an audience of 7,650 (not including online content), with an average audience attendance increase from 52 to 64. AM noted the highlights, including the launch of GURU Live Cardiff with 500 guests attending, confirming that this would be happening again on 30 March 2019. AM referenced the Gala Dinner held at 195 Piccadilly with The Apostle Q&A with Michael Sheen being a great success.

5.5 AM mentioned that there had been increased content on GURU on YouTube, and more events aimed at Career Starters. AM noted that diversity had been improved, with 55% female speakers and hosts, and 8% BAME speakers and hosts, compared to 2% in 2017, adding that this would be a focus to improve year on year. AM added that Sinemaes was held in Cardiff Bay at the Eisteddfod, and was very popular, along with Cinemor at Barry Island. AM added that pan-Wales, 38% of the events were held outside of Cardiff.

5.6 HR moved on the Awards, explaining that 830 attended, which was slightly down on last year due to 5 categories not running, adding that it would be a focus for 2019 to ensure more categories run. HR added that the PR around the event had increased, explaining that the aim was to work with more broadcasters, and other UK and international press for 2019. HR noted that 4500 watched the Awards livestream, with streaming events held in Caernarfon, and New York, adding that the aim for 2019 was to stream to an event in LA. HR confirmed that 84,000 people had watched the Awards red carpet and ceremony Facebook clips, with millions engaging online via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with RJ working really hard to improve the followers on those channels. HR thanked the new partners engaged this year, Bad Wolf, Waterstone Homes and Bluestone Brewing and Yr Egin.

5.7 AM noted the aspirations for 2019; to increase memberships, taking GURU Live Cardiff to the rest of Wales via live streaming and to create a bursaries programme for GURU Live. AM added that there would be a review of the events programme and reach, including the new festivals strategy. AM noted that there would be increased engagement with the centrally run programmes such as BAFTA Crew and Breakthrough Brits. AM added that as part of the UK scholarship, Tinopolis was running a new BAFTA scholarship, specifically for people in Wales. AM mentioned the focus of seeking new ways to engage with a diverse audience and celebrating new talent with no entry fee being charged for the Breakthrough category at the 2019 Awards.

6 Finance Report

6.1 HR ran through the finance report, explaining that £5000 more had been raised via the events programme and ticketed events/sponsorship. HR noted that there had been less income via the awards due to less categories running, less entries fees and less sponsorship. HR added that ceremony costs from providers had increased and would be monitored going forward. HR confirmed that BAFTA would be underwriting and investing £30k towards the annual operations in 2018.

7 A.O.B.

7.1 AM explained that no official AOB had been specified, and invited the members to raise any matters. LBB raised that one of the reasons she joined BAFTA Cymru back in 2014 was to increase awareness of BAFTA’s diversity and BAME representation. LBB added that she had met BAME individuals in Cardiff who felt that BAFTA was not doing enough to represent diversity. LBB suggested she become an Ambassador for these individuals and that BAFTA liaise with the community regarding this topic. AM thanked LBB for her comments and suggested arranging a meeting to discuss further and to ensure that diversity improves.

7.2 HR thanked the committee and members for attending and their support, and thanked AM for chairing, then closed the meeting.
