Below you will find a simple step-by-step guide from milliner Awon Golding to making your very own top hat from card. We advise that children are supervised by an adult at all times.

YOU WILL NEED: 1 head measurement + 2cm = - 2 sheets of A3 black card Or get creative with different colours! - Scissors 13-14cm - A tape measure - Glue or sticky-tape

Optional: - A compass - Ribbon Measure the child’s head and add 2cm. Take a sheet of card and cut out a rectangle to that width and with a height of 13-14cm. This will define the height of the crown – you can go taller or shorter if you wish!

1 YOU WILL NEED: - A piece of cardboard Brown cardboard is fine, you can decorate it later 10cm - Craft tissue paper, preferably two colours but white is fine too - 1.5m of 3.5cm-wide ribbon or a strip of fabric - Dinner plate Trace around a dinner plate on the cardboard.
