PRESS RELEASE INDOOR MEETING Karlsruhe December 14th, 2017

Two World Cup high-flyers from Germany will be starting at the INDOOR MEETING Karlsruhe Gina Lückenkemper and Pamela Dutkiewicz are taking the whole athletic nation by storm

Christmas is coming closer by the second and tickets for the INDOOR MEETING Karlsruhe, the opening of the IAAF World Indoor Tour, seem to be the most popular present underneath the Christmas tree. ‘Seconds’ and ‘popular’ are words that perfectly describe the careers of those two athletes that Alain Bordel was able to sign for the 34th tour on February 3rd in 2018. In 2017 no other female German athlete was faster than the two of them, neither indoors nor outdoors, and during the World Championships in summer the two caught everyone’s attention on the track and in the media: Gina Lückenkemper and Pamela Dutkiewicz will join the list of top athletes like Renaud Lavillenie and Marie- Laurence Jungfleisch.

It was an unbelievable confession that Gina Lückenkemper made during the London World Championships in “Das aktuelle Sportstudio”: On the 5th of August, right before she ran the tartan track in the Olympic stadium within a historical 10.95 seconds, she stimulated herself by licking a nine-volt battery. The electrified 21-year-old did not only break the sonic barrier with her unbelievable 11 seconds, but was also the first female German sprinter in the last 26 years to do so. She seems to love the even more than the since she won the bronze medal in the European Championship for that discipline, which up to this day is her biggest solo win. This year she also became the German champion of the 100 metres discipline and received her first indoor title for in Leipzig. She will compete in this discipline at the INDOOR MEETING in Karlsruhe, which will be set up as an extra competition in the programme, and will electrify and fascinate athletics fans.

Pamela Dutkiewicz also received the German indoor title. She seemed invincible to her national competitors when it came to the – but just like Lückenkemper she got the best results at the London World Championships in 2017. When she cast an eye on the video screen after throwing herself at the finish line of the at the London World Championships, she discovered her time of 12.72 seconds, which was quite good for the 26-year-old from Wattenscheid. Even better was the position that then appeared on the board. She came in third after the Olympic champions (Australia), who had won gold at the same place in 2012, and after the Olympic champion Dawn Harper-Nelson (USA), but right in front of the world record holder Kendra Harrison (USA), who she outran on the last metres. This was the second international medal for Dutkiewicz, who had come in second at the Indoor European Championship after Cindy Roleder, the European champion at that time, and received the 60 metres hurdles bronze medal for that.

Next stop is the indoor season and Dutkiewicz is not sad about that, since she has proven to be very good indoors as well. She wants to defend her title from last year at the German Indoor Championships (17th/18th of February), which will take place in Dortmund this time and will prove herself on an international level during the Indoor World Championship (1st till 4th of March).

The INDOOR MEETING in Karlsruhe on February 3rd seems to fit perfectly into the whole season schedule and the 60 metres hurdles competition is usually quite tough...
