Master Chief Petty Rodrick E Betts was born in South Boston, Virginia and enlisted in the Navy in July 1991. Following basic training at Recruit Training Center San Diego, California, he reported for Cryptologic Technician Technical (CTT) “A” School followed by “C” School (KEELAN Operator) in Pensacola, FL.

In July 1992, Master Chief Betts reported to Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA) Edzell, Scotland. During this tour he served as a KEELAN Operator and High Frequency Direction Finding (HFDF) Operator. In November 1994, Master Chief Betts completed Cryptologic Technician Communicator (CTO) “A” School followed by Tacintel “C” School in Pensacola, FL and transferred to USS Lake Champlain (CG57) where he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) insignia and advanced to Petty Officer Second Class.

In March 1998, Master Chief Betts transferred to Naval Security Group/Cryptologic Readiness Group in San Diego, California where he served as an Instructor for Cryptologic Fleet Readiness Refresher Training courses. During his assignment he was designated Master Training Specialist and advanced to Petty Officer First Class. In June 2002, Master Chief Betts transferred to the USS Decatur (DDG73) in San Diego, California where he deployed to the Persian Gulf supporting Command 5th Fleet Operations and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer.

In April 2005, Master Chief Betts reported to NSA/CSS Hawaii where he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and served as the Operations Chief and Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. Master Chief Betts’ next tour of duty was at Navy Information Operation Command Texas in San Antonio, Texas. He served as the Tailored Access Operations Senior Enlisted Leader and Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. In August 2011 Master Chief Betts reported to the Center for Information Dominance, Pensacola, Florida, where he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer. There he served as the Cryptologic Technician Networks Rating Lead and Joint Cyber Analysis Course Training Manager. He reported to his current assignment at NAVIOCOM GA and he is fulfilling the duties as the Senior Enlisted Leader for National Threat Operations Center at NSA-G.

Master Chief Betts is entitled to wear the Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Specialist (EIDWS) and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) insignias. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various campaign and service awards.

He is married to Master Chief Amber L. Betts of Frankfort, Kentucky and they have one son Jordan.
