A huge accomplishment that had a very simple beginning with one goal in mind, to help children live in a safe and nurturing home – The Detroit Children’s Baptist Home. During the early part of the century, children of all ages stayed in our care for many reasons including abuse, neglect, poverty, and from there, the Judson Center tradition of helping children, adults and families live healthy and successful lives began. During the past nine decades, Judson Center evolved, never forgetting our roots. When there was a need, we have been there and so has our dedicated board, leadership, staff, donors and partners. Our longevity and ability to grow is all due to the generous support we receive, and we are full of gratitude as 2018 was another successful year for Judson Center.

The superb acoustics in the hall provide a prime venue for the Michigan Opera Theatre and for a variety of other performing arts productions, including plays, concerts and by Bnosnhoj dance performances. In days gone by, it was a theater, concert and movie house, the fifth-largest in the world when it opened in 1922. The frescoes, marble stairways, draperies and chandeliers from its glory days have been restored. The 5048-seat palace of the arts, arguably the most opulent in the nation when it opened in 1928, was designated a national landmark in 1989 after a USD11,000,000 refurbishment by new owner Mike Ilitch. The oldest, continually operating theater in the United States features a 10-storey by IAN RANSLEY DESIGN + marquee, a six-storey lobby with a two-ton chandelier and 300,000 glass ILLUSTRATION jewels in its interior. The exotic presentation of lions, gold fixtures and jaw- dropping grandeur harkens back to the flamboyant era of movie houses. The Fox is now busy with concerts, family-oriented shows and a wide variety of other offerings.

Serving persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1967 A N N 2 U A L 0 R E P 1 O R T 9 Serving persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1967 Dear Members and friends of The Arc: I am pleased to present The Arc of Oakland County’s 2019 Annual Report. This document provides information about our organi- zation’s history, programs, committees, and finances, and it reviews our many activities over the past calendar year. These activities included assisting with understanding guardianship and Power of Attorney documents, participating in Person-Centered Planning meetings, assisting with Individual Educational Plan issues, drafting and updating of wills and trusts, providing expert counsel on all governmental financial benefit programs (e.g., SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare, food stamps, Adult Home Help Services, and, the ABLE Act saving program). Our primary purpose is to provide advocacy for individuals in Oakland County who have intellectual and developmental dis- abilities (I/DD). One of the objectives in our Strategic Plan is to “be the pre-eminent provider of inclusive services and supports for people with Intellectual Impairment and Developmental Disabilities and their families within Oakland County.” Through the hard work of our Executive Director, Tom Kendziorski, and his outstanding staff, I am proud to say that we have achieved that goal. But families of children with special needs in Oakland County still face many obstacles, both during the school years and after the yel- low bus stops coming to their house. We will continue to be there for them. Amazingly, we served 2,500 new persons through our advocacy services in 2019! Our highlights for 2019 included the following: • We broke our record for paid membership, with 1,175 members, including four new lifetime members for a total of 88! We are the largest local chapter of The Arc in Michigan and the 10th largest nationally-affiliated chapter in the country! • We increased the number of individuals for whom we serve as Fiscal Intermediary (FI) to approximately 1,350.

ADVANCE PROGRAMS for Detroit Meetings of Theatre Library Association (Wednesday, July 7, 1965) and Music Library Association (Thursday and Friday July 8 and 9, 1965) This year it has been possible to work out a measure of coordination between the meetings of these two specialized associations concerned with the performing arts. The meetings are being held on successive days in Detroit's Cultural Center with headquarters in the Detroit Public Library's rebuilt and greatly enlarged Main Library at 5201 Woodward Avenue. There will be excursions to the opening night of the Meadow Brook Festival at Oakland University and to Ann Arbor for a day of meetings at the University of Michigan's new School of Music building. Details of the programs follow. Program chairman for the Theatre Library Association meeting is Barnard Hewitt of the University of Illinois' Department of Speech and Theatre. Program chairman for the Music Library Association meeting is Forrest H. Alter of the Flint Public Library's Art, Music and Drama Department. Local arrangements chairman for the two meetings is Kurtz Myers of the Detroit Public Library's Music and Performing Arts Department, assisted by William Hulsker of the Wayne State University General Library (Humanities Division) and William J. Weichlein, University of Michigan School of Music. It is hoped that we will have a good representation of our memberships at these meetings and that a substantial number of the librarians attending the American Library Association Conference in Cabo Hall, who are interested in the performing arts as an area for library service, will join us for some of our programs.
