2 • 2018 AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL • LETSGOPEAY.COM AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY Austin Peay State University is a comprehensive, state-assisted university with a distinguished tradition in liberal and professional education. The institution is named in honor of Austin Peay, Tennessee’s governor from 1924 until 1927, the year APSU was founded. The university is located in Clarksville, Tenn., just 45 minutes northwest of Tennessee’s capital, Nashville, on Interstate 24. One of the South’s most historic cities, Clarksville also is Tennessee’s fastest growing city and one of the 10 fastest growing cities in the United States according a 2013 U.S. Census Bureau Report. Situated on gently rolling terrain near picturesque downtown Clarksville, Austin Peay’s main campus consists of 68 buildings on 169 acres. The classical Georgian architecture of the Austin Peay campus is combined with newer buildings. This blend provides a link with the past while reflecting the academic excellence and dignity of an institution of higher learning. The newest building additions to the main campus are the Hemlock Semiconductor Building, Foy Fitness and Recreation Center, Sundquist Science Complex and the Morgan University Center, each opening for use since 2001. The Hemlock Semiconductor Building houses the chemical engineering technology (CET) associate degree program and laboratory. The $11-million Foy Center, features a rock-climbing wall and 10,000 square feet of fitness space and other amenities for the student body. The Sundquist Complex is one of the South’s premier science education facilities and represents the largest capital appropriation ever in Tennessee for a single classroom building. The new Morgan University Center is located in the heart of the campus and features a cybercafe, meeting rooms, a food court, coffee shop, ballroom and lounges for Austin Peay students. Austin Peay’s campus has been the site of seven educational institutions since 1806. The campus was occupied by Southwestern Presbyterian University (now Rhodes College) for 50 years until 1925 when the school moved to Memphis. Austin Peay was founded two years later as a two-year normal school to train teachers for the region. Austin Peay has grown over the years to take its place among the finest mid-sized four-year universities in the nation. Austin Peay Normal School became a four-year college in 1941-42, and university status was conferred Sept. 1, 1967. Austin Peay currently enrolls more than 10,000 students from every region of Tennessee, most of the 50 states and several foreign countries. Those students can choose from more than 50 majors in associate, bachelor’s, master’s and education specialist’s degrees with additional areas of concentration. Courses are offered in arts and sciences, business, education, engineering technology, nursing and human services. Graduate studies also are offered in several areas. In addition, numerous online courses are offered each semester. A state leader in public service, Austin Peay State University has more than 750 employees. 10 • 2018 AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL • LETSGOPEAY.COM GOVERNORS COACHES

Will Healy enters his third season at the helm of the Austin Peay program. He was presented with the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award as the top coach in the nation, and was also named the Roy Kidd OVC Coach of the Year, in 2017.

#MISSIONPOSSIBLE • #LETSGOPEAY • 11 WILL HEALY Position: Head Coach • Experience: Third Season Career Record: 8-15 • APSU Record: 8-15, Third Season • Alma Mater: Richmond, 2008

In just his second year at the helm of the Austin Peay football program, Will Healy helped engineer one of the great turnarounds in college football history. The Govs entered 2017 on a 27 game losing streak, but showed tremendous promise in a tightly- contested game against FBS opponent Cincinnati to open the year. The Govs broke through in a major way, scoring a program-record 10 rushing in a Week 3 victory against Morehead State, ending the nation’s longest losing streak. Under Healy, the Govs won seven conference games for the first time in program history, and finished alone in second place in the Ohio Valley Conference, the best finish since the 1980 squad tied for second. Despite narrowly missing the FCS Playoffs, recognition for Healy’s efforts poured in from across the country. He received the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award as the top coach at the FCS level, and the OVC tabbed him as its Roy Kidd Coach of the Year. Austin Peay rewrote its record book during the 2017 season, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The Govs set the school record and finished sixth nationally with 3,105 yards rushing. They also set records for rushing touchdowns (32), yards per rush (5.35), total offense (4,646), yards per game (387.2), yards per play (5.84), total points (327) and total touchdowns (45). In addition to Healy being named the OVC Coach of the Year, the Govs earned six All-OVC selections, and the conference tabbed quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall as its Freshman of the Year. Healy’s background in developing quarterbacks shined through as Oatsvall took over the starting role midway through the season and posted the best yards per pass (8.1) and second-best pass efficiency (135.8) in Austin Peay history. Healy was announced as Austin Peay’s 19th football coach, Dec. 20, 2015, before being introduced at a press conference two days later. Healy came to Austin Peay after serving seven seasons as an assistant coach at Chattanooga. The personable young men- tor worked under head coach Russ Huesman in helping restore the former FCS power Mocs to its previous glory. After arriving in 2009, Healy was part of a staff that had the best turnaround in school history in 2009 (from 1-11 to 6-5) and only improved from that point on. The Mocs won or shared Southern Conference Championships each of Healy’s last three seasons, making FCS play-off appear- ances in 2014 and 2015. In fact, the Mocs finished 9-4 in 2015, including narrow losses to FCS championship finalist Jacksonville State, the FCS quarterfinal contest going into overtime. The Chattanooga native served as wide receivers coach, passing-game coordinator and recruiting coordinator. Healy’s work in the passing game helped mold Jacob Huesman into three-time Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a STATS FCS Second-Team All-America.

12 • 2018 AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL • LETSGOPEAY.COM HEAD COACH WILL HEALY Healy’s quarterback development skills appeared early in his Chattanooga tenure. As Mocs’ quarterback coach in 2009 he tutored Tennessee transfer BJ Coleman, who passed for more than 2,300 yards, 17 touchdowns and just four . He became a seventh-round selection of the in the 2012 draft. After moving to receivers coach in 2010, Healy had equal success. Joel Bradford became an All-American in 2010, posting 81 catches for a school-record 1,284 yards. Tommy Hudson and Clarksville native C.J. Board also earned All-SoCon honors in 2014 under Healy’s tutelage. Along the way, Healy’s worked with two passing programs ranked in the FCS Top-10 in 2010 (eighth in yards) and 2014 (sixth in passer rating). Healy also was responsible for helping transform Chattanooga from a successful team into a well-respected program as recruit- ing coordinator. With Healy taking the lead in building relationships and the program utilizing Tennesseans for nearly half its roster, Chattanooga had top-rated recruiting classes in 2012-14, including the top-ranked FCS class in 2013 and 2014. He also served as the program’s NFL liaison during his Chattanooga tenure. Healy was introduced to football at a young age. His father Rob was a star at Georgia Tech and his uncle Chip was an All-America linebacker at Vanderbilt. As a prep quarterback star at Chattanooga’s Boyd-Buchanan, Healy earned all-state twice, all-state honorable mention two other years, and was a four-time all-region selection. A Tennessee “Mr. Football” finalist as a senior, Healy holds the Chattanooga area career passing record with more than 7,700 yards. That helped him land initially at the Air Force Prep Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado before heading to Richmond (Vir- ginia). Healy was a team captain on the Richmond’s 2008 FCS National Title team and saw action in 31 games in his collegiate career. He played in the Spiders’ win over Montana in the 2008 FCS Championship game, which for many years was played at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium. Healy received his bachelor’s degree from Richmond in Rhetoric and Communication Studies in December 2008, He literally went from the playing field to coaching, joining Huesman at Chattanooga as a young assistant in 2009 at Chattanooga. Healy married the former Emily Broyles in June, 2012. The couple has one son, Eli, age 3.

#MISSIONPOSSIBLE • #LETSGOPEAY • 13 ASSISTANT COACHES BRANDON COOPER Position: Assistant Coach • Responsibilities: Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Experience: Third Season • Alma Mater: UT Martin, 2007

In his third season at Austin Peay, Brandon Cooper fully takes over the reigns as the defensive coordinator, after joining the staff as a co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach in 2016. The Governors defense made enormous strides in 2017, as it allowed 22 fewer points per game and nearly 200 fewer yards per game with Cooper as co-defensive coordinator. His positive work with the defensive backs shined through in the successes of a number of younger players. Redshirt sophomore Keawvis Cummings led the team in interceptions, while freshman Kordell Jackson led the team with seven pass break ups, and also recorded three sacks. Junior Malik Davis and redshirt sophomore Juantarius Bryant finished third and fourth, respectively, in total tackles for the Govs, while Malik Boynton finished fifth in his final season on campus. Cooper joined the Austin Peay staff after a season with Murray State. Cooper is a well-known commodity around the Ohio Valley Conference—his previous stints around the conference include Murray State, Jacksonville State (2011-12) and UT Martin, where he played (2003-06) and got his coaching start (2008-10). It was in the Southern Conference with Chattanooga that Cooper and Governors head coach Will Healy crossed paths. Cooper’s two-year stint with the Mocs began in 2013, with the Mocs’ defense leading the Southern Conference in fewest yards allowed per game (329), passing yards allowed per game (152) and points allowed per game (20.5). The next season, Cooper and the Mocs defense ranked in the FCS top-10 in multiple categories, including first down defense (6th, 15.7 per game), total defense (8th, 277.9), pass defense (9th, 153.2) and scoring defense (12th, 19.7). Cooper was also able to mentor Tommy Hudson, the Mocs All-American punt returner, in 2014. During his stay at Jacksonville State, Cooper coached the Gamecocks and dime defensive backs. The Gamecocks won the 2011 OVC title, leading the league with 16 interceptions during conference play. A.J. Davis was an All-OVC corner for JSU that season and went on to spend time with the New Orleans Saints. In 2012, he guided cornerback Jermaine Hough to Freshman All-American recognition and a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer team. Cooper’s tenure as a coach at UT Martin saw the Skyhawks lead the OVC in total defense in 2010, allowing 299.3 yards per game, and the Skyhawks were also the conference leaders in total defense, passing defense, passing-efficiency defense and third- down defense. Cooper assisted with the linebackers and cornerbacks during his time in Martin, with Josh Bey earning All-American honors in 2009. Cooper was a four-year letterman for the Skyhawks from 2003-06 and helped lead UT Martin to its first OVC Championship as a senior in 2006. The Cincinnati, Ohio native earned his Bachelor’s degree in health and human performance from UT Martin in 2007. Cooper was married in May 2015 to his wife, Natasha.

14 • 2018 AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL • LETSGOPEAY.COM ASSISTANT COACHES WESLEY SATTERFIELD Position: Assistant Coach • Responsibilities: /Quarterbacks Experience: Third Season • Alma Mater: Sewanee, 2007

In his second season at the helm of the Governors offense, Wesley Satterfield proved himself as one of the best young offensive minds in football. The 2017 offense rewrote the Austin Peay records book, setting school records in total offense (4,646), yards per game (387.2), yards per play (5.84), total points (327) and total touchdowns (45). It was just the third time in program history the team went for more than 4,000 yards in a season, and the second year in a row. The rushing attach was devastating, as Austin Peay ranked sixth in the FCS in rush yards with 3,105, which also set a program record. The offense also set program highs in rushing touchdowns (32) and yards per rush (5.35). Working with the quarterbacks, Satterfield had freshman Jeremiah Oatsvall develop into one of the best quarterbacks in the Ohio Valley Conference. Despite starting just the final five games of the season, he racked up 1,601 yards of total offense and 13 touchdowns. Oatsvall was named Second-Team All-OVC and was voted by the media as the OVC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in 2018. In 2016, his offense surpassed 4,000 yards and under his tutelage, the Govs became the second-most improved offense in all of FCS, increasing their offensive totals by 119.6 yards per game. The 2,014 rushing yards were the program’s most since the 2002 season, and the 183.1 rushing yards per contest were the most since the 1996 season. Satterfield came to Austin Peay after a two-year stint at Southeastern Louisiana, where he worked with the Lions quarterbacks. In 2014, Bryan Bennett earned Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors under Satterfield’s tutelage, throwing for 2,357 yards and 18 touchdowns while rushing for an additional 669 yards and 15 scores. A four-year starter at quarterback during his playing days at Sewanee, he was named SCAC Offensive Player of the Year as a junior, setting the conference record with 11 rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. He also was the kicker and punter for the Tigers before graduating in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in American History. A third-generation coach, Satterfield was an all-state quarterback and kicker at Trousdale County High, where his father and previously his grandfather served as head football coach. #MISSIONPOSSIBLE • #LETSGOPEAY • 15 ASSISTANT COACHES JOSHUA EARGLE Position: Assistant Coach • Responsibilities: Running Game Coordinator/Offensive Line Experience: Third Season • Alma Mater: Memphis, 2001

In his role as the offensive line coach and the run game coordinator, Joshua Eargle has made a tremendous impact. Two of his pupils, left tackle Kyle Anderton and left guard Ryan Rockensuess, were named Second- Team All-OVC at the end of the 2017 season for their work in paving the way for the best offense in program history. The Austin Peay rushing attack ranked sixth in the country after amassing 3,105 yards – a program record. The squad also set program highs in rushing touchdowns (32) and yards per rush (5.35). Eargle came to Austin Peay from East Texas Baptist, where in his three seasons as head coach, he turned around a program that won three games in his first season to a share of the conference title in 2015. The 2015 American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year, Eargle has experience at the FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III levels of collegiate coaching. Over that time, he has served on both sides of the ball, including as offensive coordinator (Monticello State, 2010) and defensive coordinator (Southeastern Oklahoma State, 2012). Despite being a man who has largely coached offense during his career, Eargle’s Southeastern Oklahoma State defense ranked 29th nationally among 156 Division II programs, and was 11th in pass defense. At ETBU, Eargle’s ascent saw him coach 23 All-ASC first- and second-team players, including six Division III All-Americans— quarterback Josh Warbington and running back Kendall Roberson posted back-to-back All-American campaigns in 2014-15. In total, ETBU established 42 individual or team season records during Eargle’s three seasons at the helm. Eargle gained his coaching start in 2003 as a graduate assistant at Southern Miss, spending two years as a GA and another season with the program in 2006—the 2003 Golden Eagle squad captured a Conference USA championship with an 8-0 league record, and the 2006 team won the East Division at 6-2. Eargle also coached LSU’s offensive line in 2009, and his four FBS season’s yielded four bowl trips—2003 Liberty Bowl, 2004 New Orleans Bowl, 2007 GMAC Bowl and 2010 Capital One Bowl. Austin Peay will be Eargle’s second FCS level stop—he coached the offensive line at Nicholls State in 2007-08. His other coaching homes have included Ouachita Baptist (2005) and Hallsville High School (2011). At the collegiate level, Eargle has had at least one player at each coaching stop earn an all-conference honor. A 2001 Memphis graduate, Eargle won the inaugural Top Tiger Award, presented by Tommy West to the player who battled back from adversity or overcame difficult circumstances to return to the field. He earned his Master’s in Sports Administration from Southern Miss in 2004. He and his wife Kristen have three children--two daughters and a son.

Prior to joining the Skyhawks, he had a three-year stint at Cal, where he guided the development of several student-athletes that played a key role on the team’s defensive over that period (2014-16), most notably 2016 Defensive Team MVP James Looney and Kyle Kragen during his breakout campaign as a 2015 senior. Looney was also a third-team All-Pac-12 selection by Phil Steele and an honorable mention All- Pac-12 choice after starting all 12 games at defensive tackle and compiling 54 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss (-38 yards), 3.5 sacks (-22 yards), two quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery that he returned 25 yards at USC for the team’s lone fumble return of the campaign and one forced fumble. Kragen capped his collegiate career with a huge senior season as he led Cal with career highs in tackles for loss (8.0, -43 yards), sacks (7.0, -36 yards) and quarterback hurries (6) while sharing the team lead with his first two career forced fumbles and adding his first career fumble recovery. In addition to being an honorable mention All-Pac-12 choice of the league’s coaches, Kragen earned third-team All-Pac-12 honors from Phil Steele and was also added to the midseason watch list for the Ted Hendricks Award honoring the nation’s top defensive end. Cal’s defense had several big moments in 2016 most notably a goal-line stand on the final series of the game against No. 18 Utah that propelled the Bears to a 28-23 victory over the Utes. Utah had first-and-goal from the two-yard line and were turned back three times with Looney stopping Zack Moss just inches short of the goal-line on the final play to set off a wild celebration in Berkeley. Cal’s defense had also stopped Utah on downs in the red zone earlier in the fourth quarter with Looney and fellow defensive tackle Tony Mekari making the final stop. In 2015, much of Cal’s success was because the Bears’ defense continued to improve at a rapid rate, allowing 15.8 points fewer than in the season before Tate’s arrival. Cal was one of the nation’s top teams in categories related to caused turnovers in 2015 as the Bears finished the campaign tied for 11th nationally in fumbles recovered (12), tied for 13th in turnovers gained (27), tied for 23rd in passes intercepted (15) and tied for 25th in defensive touchdowns (3). Cal tied for first in the Pac-12 in fumbles recovered, tied for second in turnovers gained and passes intercepted, and tied for fourth in defensive touchdowns. All of the 2015 numbers and rankings were improvements from the previous season. Several Cal also players had their best collegiate seasons under Tate in his first season at Cal in 2014 most notably defensive tackles Mustafa Jalil and Austin Clark, who were major factors in the team’s one-year improvement of 48 spots and 44 yards per game in rush defense to No. 38 nationally (144.6 ypg). Prior to his arrival at Cal he spent the 2013 season as the defensive tackles coach for a Cincinnati team that finished 9-4 overall and played in the Belk Bowl. Cincinnati’s 2013 defense was one of the best in the country, ranking in the top 10 nationally in both rushing defense (6th, 104.5 ypg) and total defense (9th, 315.6 ypg). Cincinnati was also among the top 30 in 10 of the 11 primary defensive categories tracked in the national stats, including 14th in scoring defense (21.0 ppg), third-down conversion percentage defense (33.1%) and first downs defense (230); 23rd in sacks (2.69 spg) and red-zone defense (76.5%); 25th in team passing efficiency defense (116.75); 26th in tackles for loss (6.80 tflpg); and 29th in passing yards allowed (211.2 ypg). Tate was the defensive line coach at Texas Tech in 2012, inheriting a 2011 unit that ranked 114th nationally in total defense (485.58 ypg) and improving them to 38th (367.31 ypg) while ranking second in the Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech was keyed by a pass defense that led the league and ranked 15th in the country (192.00 ypg). The Red Raiders finished 8-5 overall and were victorious over Minnesota at the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Tate has also been on coaching staffs at Marshall (2010-11), Tennessee-Chattanooga (2008-09), Southern Miss (2005-06), Middle Tennessee (2002), Southwest Texas State (2001), East Mississippi Community College (2000), Jacksonville State (1998- 99) and East Central Community College (1997). A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., Tate served in the United States Army enlisted in the United States Army and was a member of the elite airborne unit stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Following his military service, Tate started his collegiate football career with two seasons at East Central Community College, where he was a JC Gridwire All-American selection as a 1994 sophomore and voted the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the National Junior College All-Star Game. He continued his playing career at Southern Mississippi, where he was a defensive lineman in 1995 and 1996 for a Golden Eagles’ team that was a charter member of Conference USA and won the league’s first football championship with a 4-1 confer- ence mark in his second and final season while finishing with an 8-3 overall record that included a victory over Georgia and a seven-game winning streak. Tate earned his bachelor’s degree in human performance from Southern Miss in 1997.
