Open House @ St Luke’s ElderCare Centres

St Luke’s ElderCare Centres at Tampines and Clementi serve the elderly clients in their respective communities. Over the years, the needs of the residents have increased, paving the way for the two centres to undergo a makeover to better serve them. When the renovation was completed, both centres reopened as senior care centres, a community-based facility that integrates day care, dementia day care, maintenance day care, community rehabilitation and centre-based nursing service. Mr S Iswaran, former Second Minister for Home Afairs and Second Minister for Trade and Industry (current Minister for Trade and Industry) visited the Clementi Centre while Ms Irene Ng, former MP for Tampines GRC visited the Tampines Centre to gain a better understanding of the services provided in the community.

During their visit, they were given insights on the social programmes available at the centres and how they serve as a platform for the residents to bond with the elderly during the daily recreational activities.

Golfng for Charity

Over 100 golf enthusiasts made their way to Singapore Island Country Club to participate in St Luke’s Charity Golf. Held annually, the proceeds from the event will go towards St Luke’s fund to help patients with fnancial difculties. Minister of Health, Mr graced the event and thanked the golfers and sponsors for their generosity.

In his speech, Mr Gan noted how the funds raised from the event would beneft the aging population and community as St Luke’s continues to reach out and explore diferent approaches to address the healthcare needs of the country. A portion of the funds raised will also be allocated to help seniors who are less mobile and require transportation.

Mr Peter Koh, Chairman of the organising committee also shared that the bulk of the patients and clients at St Luke’s Hospital and St Luke’s ElderCare need fnancial assistance as they come from the lower income households. The money raised would allow St Luke’s to provide quality care and compassionate service at afordable rates.

2 Volunteer Appreciation Lunch Our volunteers at St Luke’s have been doing amazing things over the years for our patients and clients.

Rain or shine, they would visit the hospital or the eldercare centres every week. They help with diversional therapy, patient porting, befriending or simply use their skills and talents to bring cheer to the people they meet. They do so much but expect so little.

To thank our volunteers, the volunteer management team organised an appreciation lunch for this dedicated group of people who come from all walks of life. They were entertained with skits from staf members, making the afternoon an enjoyable one. It is our small way of recognizing their passionate support and for partnering with us over the years to support the patients and their families.

5 Patient Story Learning To Walk Again

What seemed like a normal Monday morning turned out very diferently for Mr Ong Seng Bock. A year ago, Mr Ong woke up with a stroke that impaired the right side of his body. It was a life-changing moment for him and his family. He could not understand why he would sufer from a stroke.

He used to lead an active lifestyle, playing football when he was younger. To make ends meet, he would sell noodles at his shop, keeping him on his feet all day.

Mr Ong visited St Luke's ElderCare Centre at Telok Blangah following his discharge from the restructured hospital to continue his recovery. He spent most of his time working on getting his mobility back with the help of the therapists and a carefully planned exercise regime tailored specifcally to his needs.
