Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman is a medical scientist working in the field of . As a scholar, he has to his credit 5 published books and more than 65 research papers/articles/reports in both national and international journals. He edited 9 publications and contributed 10 important chapters in medical science books. Dr. Rahman has been very active academically. He has attended 32 International Conferences, 51 National Conferences and 50 Workshops/Training Programs. He organized himself one international conference and many symposiums. He is involved with and/or member of 24 learned educational bodies including International Brain Research Organization, International Society for Neurochemistry & Safety Pharmacological Society. Many scholars and institutions have cited his works including in few Pharmacology text books. Under his supervision and co-supervision, 7 candidates have either completed or are completing their thesis/dissertation works.

He was awarded with Servier Young Investigator Award of International Union of Pharmacology (1999), Junior Scientist Award of Safety Pharmacological Society of USA (2006), Honorary Membership of National Academy of Medical Science (2010) and WHO Fellowships to attend the 2nd Asian Course on ED & RDU in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Second International Conference on Improving Use of Medicines (ICIUM 2004) in Chiang Mai (Thailand). He visited USA (thrice), Holland, UAE, Malaysia, Iran, Kenya, Hong Kong, Thailand, France, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Nepal, Australia and Austria for academic purpose.

He is the founder trustee and treasurer of Ibn Sina Academy of Medieval Medicine & Sciences, and an Associate Editor of its quarterly newsletter (NISA). He coordinated in the establishment of the Library, Museum on History of Medicine & Sciences, Centre for Safety & Rational Use of Indian Systems of Medicine & AIDS Cell as corpus body of the Academy. The Academy is listed in the Directory of History of Medicine Collections, US Department of Health and Human Services, National Library of Medicine, NIH, USA. In addition, he is closely associated with the ‘Society of , India (SoPI)’. He started as editor-in-chief, the official journal of SoPI viz the Journal of Pharmacovigilance & Drug Safety and edited its first 2 numbers. At present, he is representing SoPI as International Secretary. He coined the term “Pharmacoenvironmentology” for the study of drugs at therapeutic doses and its impact on environment and differentiated it with the term ‘EcoPharmacology’. He is a permanent faculty member (since March 1999) at the Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India.
