MEC on guidelines and protocols on movement of seasonal workers between the and other provinces during Coronavirus COVID-19 lockdown. 04 May 2020. “Earlier today the Western Cape Cabinet confirmed the guidelines and protocols for the transport of essential seasonal workers in the agriculture sector from the Western Cape to other provinces. The guidelines require that the following documents accompany every essential worker in circumstances where they return to their primary homes in other provinces after the completion of their contract: • A permit that is completed by the employer for each essential worker rendering seasonal work • Every essential seasonal worker must have an identity document • Proof that each essential seasonal worker had been screened for Covid19 before getting on the vehicle • A copy of the employment contract and • Completed U119 forms for each season worker whose contract has expired.” https://www.gov.za/speeches/mec-ivan-meyer-guidelines-and-protocols-movement-seasonal-workers-between-western-cape

Abundant grain harvest in 2020. 2020 May 4 SA News “ will have sufficient staple grains supply in the 2020/21 marketing year, which starts in May 2020 and ends in April 2021. “Amid the unprecedented uncertainty and our collective fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, we are assured of sufficient food supply at reasonable price levels,” said Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza. Communications and Digital Technology on Risk-Adjusted Strategy directions for film and television production houses. 04 May 2020. “As Acting Minister of Communications & Digital Technologies, I have signed and gazetted directions on the Risk- Adjusted Strategy for the ICT sector. The gazetted directions allow, among other, electronic communication services and network services, advertising agencies, film and television production companies to resume operations. Western Cape Liquor Authority on investigations into non-compliance with the National Disaster Regulations where liquor traders sold alcohol illegally during the Coronavirus COVID-19 lockdown. 04 May 2020. “Between 23 March and 30 April 2020, the Western Cape Liquor Authority (WCLA) have conducted 43 investigations on matters of non-compliance with the National Disaster Regulations where liquor traders sold alcohol illegally during the lockdown. Of the 43 investigations conducted, 16 liquor licenses have now been suspended and 4 reports are being prepared for the Liquor Licensing Tribunal’s (LLT) consideration. Five nabbed for robbery during lockdown. 2020 May 4 SA News “Five suspects are to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape today on charges of business robbery and contravening the Disaster Management Act, said police. The five were arrested on Sunday after three of the men robbed a supermarket in Mandela Ville in Kamesh. Two shop assistants were held at gunpoint, while others ransacked the store. The men made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, an airtime machine and a cellphone before fleeing the scene in a beige Toyota Corolla. The purpose of these Directions is to– (a) prescribe temporary measures or steps currently necessary to manage COVID -19 in order to reduce its impact in the Republic, by preventing the importation of, and minimising the local transmission of, COVID-19; and (b) provide directions to the creative sector for film and television content productions using local cast or performers and crews. Any such production undertaken during this period must comply strictly with the appropriate health and safety protocols, the production dissemination or broadcasting of information to the public through live streaming and the applicable measures set out in these Directions. We made a point at the time that the sector is going to be the hardest hit by the pandemic since the necessary measures to curb the spread of the virus were detrimental to the sector. After processing the data, the Department had nearly 5, 000 applications from the arts and culture sector and 300 from the sport sector. Cigarettes ban decision not taken lightly. 2020 May 4 SA News “An earlier decision by government to allow the sale of cigarettes during the COVID-19 lockdown was rescinded after the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) consulted medical experts and various role-players. President Cyril Ramaphosa said this on Monday after sections of society implied that Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma had arbitrarily gazetted the ban. Previously President Ramaphosa had announced that the sale of tobacco products would be allowed when the country moved to Level 4 of the nationwide lockdown. Grants for older persons and persons with disabilities, together with all the children’s grants linked to them, have been prioritised for payment from 4 -5 May 2020. Post Office unveils first of its cashless ATMs to pay SASSA social grants. 04 May 2020. “The SA Post Office (SAPO) today launched the first of its cashless ATMs that will serve as additional payment points for SASSA social grants in an event held at Bojanala Local Municipality, Rustenburg. The ATM is located within the premises of Kagiso Trading, GG Location.
