Zwei Titel gingen an Österreich und einer an Russland. Mit zwei Titeln und einer Silbermedaille war Julia Taubitz die erfolgreichste Starterin der WM. Erstaunlich, zumal Taubitz einen bösen Trainingssturz hingelegt hatte. Im Wettkampf zeigte sie Nervenstärke. Zunächst siegte sie im Sprintwettbewerb vor Anna Berreiter und Dajana Eitberger. Nathalie Geisenberger wurde Vierte. Im olympischen Wettbewerb verwies Taubitz die favorisierte Geisenberger, Eitberger und Berreiter auf die Plätze. Berreiter konnte sich über den Titel bei den Juniorinnen freuen. Im Männer-Wettbewerb war Felix Loch der große Favorit. Er hatte bislang alle Wettkämpfe im Weltcup für sich entschieden. Auf seiner Heimbahn musste er sich Roman Repilov (Russland) geschlagen geben. Dritter wurde David Gleirscher (Österreich) vor Max Langenhan und Johannes Ludwig. Langenhan holte sich den Sieg bei den Junioren vor Moritz Bollmann. Im Sprintwettbewerb blieben die Deutschen ohne Medaille. Loch wurde Vierter, Langenhan Sechster und Ludwig Neunter. Den Sieg holte sich der Österreicher Nico Gleirscher. Verlass war erneut auf die deutschen Doppelsitzer. Das Duo Toni Eggert und Sascha Benecken holten sich den Sieg vor Tobias Wendl und Tobias Arlt. Rang drei ging an Andris und Juris Sics aus Lettland. Das Nachwuchs-Duo Hannes Orlamünder und Paul Gubitz wurden Zehnte. Den Sprintwettbewerb hatten sich zum Auftakt der Titelkämpfe Wendl/Arlt geholt. Eggert und Benecken wurden Dritte. Ein starkes Rennen lieferten Orlamünder/Gubitz, die Fünfte wurden.

(ske) Ein Bahn- und ein Startrekord, packende, knisternde und enge Rennen auf phantastischem Eis und bei strahlendem Sonnenschein: Die Deutschen Rennrodel-Meisterschaften 2019 in der VELTINS-EisArena waren Werbung in eigener Sache sowie für die FIL Rennrodel-WM Ende Januar 2019 in Winterberg. „Wir möchten uns bei den Bahnarbeitern für das perfekte Eis bedanken“, sagte der neue Deutsche Meister im Einsitzer, Felix Loch (RC Berchtesgaden). „Ich hoffe, das ist auch bei der WM der Fall.“ Als Dank überreichte Loch der Bahn-Crew eine Kiste Gerstensaft. Loch hatte im zweiten Lauf mit 51,654 Sekunden einen neuen Bahnrekord aufgestellt. Der Zweitplatzierte Chris Eißler (ESV Lok Zwickau) hatte im ersten Lauf den alten Rekord ebenfalls geknackt, wurde aber noch von Loch übertroffen. Für einen neuen Startrekord mit 3,765 Sekunden sorgte Johannes Ludwig (BSR Oberhof). Den Sauerländer Glanzpunkt setzten Robin Geueke und David Gamm (BSC Winterberg) bei den Doppelsitzern. Sie sicherten sich den Titel hauchdünn vor Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (RC Berchtesgaden/WSV Königssee). „Das ist unser erster Titel im Seniorenbereich“, freuten sich die beiden. „Er fühlt sich sehr gut an. Er gibt uns Auftrieb für die kommende Weltcup-Saison und für die Heim-WM. Wir wollen den Flow mit in die Wettkampf-Saison nehmen. Wir wissen aber auch, dass bei den Doppelsitzern viel passieren kann. Man muss immer zwei Läufe runterbringen.“ Bundestrainer Norbert Loch, insgesamt mit der WM „sehr zufrieden“, sagte: „Geueke und Gamm haben ein tolles Rennen geliefert.“ Tief enttäuscht war der Hallenberger Christian Paffe: Er belegte nur den achten Rang und hatte damit keine Chance, ins Weltcup-Team zu rutschen.
