5. EEO Initiatives

 KERA/KXT recruits for every full time position that becomes available utilizing a variety of resources. The internet is one vehicle that provides highly effective dissemination of information to all people within our local, regional, state and even national community. A

FCC Annual EEO Public File Report - 8 - EXHIBIT 2-A North Texas Public Broadcasting KERA-TV, KERA-FM and KKXT-FM

EEO Recruiting Report April 1, 2014 – March 31, 2015

number of third party recruiting sources re-post our positions and otherwise disseminate the information through their websites.

 All open positions are posted on our website, www.KERA.org and are also published through social media sources both on our Facebook page and are sent out via Twitter. These three sources are all available to the general public. In addition, some positions are posted on highly recognized professional websites and/or on specific professional association websites. We also utilize local community job boards such as www.CareerDFW.com to advertise openings. As noted, advertisements placed on the KERA website/Facebook/Twitter are picked up and reposted by networking boards and other employment search engine job sites like Indeed, Dice, SimplyHired, TheLadders, SnagAJob, and some that are industry specific such as TrippleARadio.com. In addition, we have sponsored paid advertising on LinkedIn, a professional networking site. A number of our positions are placed with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC – the state employment agency) job bank (which also uses an on-line posting process for advertising to job seekers) and further extends to the Veterans Resource and Referral Specialists which is sponsored by the TWC, and to US Jobs, a national job bank. We advertise with appropriate professional associations targeted for the type of job skills we are seeking (ex. Association of Fund Raising Professionals, Dallas Human Resources Association), in local temporary to hire agencies (ex. Burnett Staffing), professional search firms (ex. Pena Search Consulting), in certain industry publications (ex. FMQB) and we have directly contacted some local colleges and universities as well as community organizations such as churches and other groups sponsoring networking forums for individuals seeking employment.

 KERA/KXT implemented and continued a process of broadcasting weekly radio spots related to employment on our NPR station KERA FM 90.1, and also on our all music station, KKXT FM 91.7. Since April 2014 to date, 96 spots advertising our employment opportunities. The purpose of advertising on two radio stations is to ensure that we communicate broadly the organization’s commitment to diversity, and equal employment opportunity, and further, that we encourage the public to go to our website to find open positions at www.kera.org . Our two stations together attract diverse listeners with different interests, from all age groups and ethnic backgrounds in areas all over the North Texas.

 We participated in the KIPP Internship program during the summer of 2014, which included attending a job fair and interviewing a number of both high school and college students before selecting a candidate to hire. KIPP works with students who may be disadvantage or otherwise underserved to assist them in building good work/study/behavior habits with an objective of enrollment in, and graduation from college. We sponsored a minority female student intern who spent the summer working at KERA as a part of this program.

 We continued to offer a regular internship program at KERA/KXT designed to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment. Interns

EEO Recruiting Report April 1, 2014 – March 31, 2015

are college students and are employed by KERA/KXT each semester. Interns from any college may be considered assuming their major studies are associated with journalism or other majors that are appropriate for the skills needs at KERA.

 KERA participated in a job fair at Richland Community College. Our objective is to make students aware of our organization, and the type of career options available. As a matter of practice, as we fill so few jobs each year, and often those jobs are spaced, attending a job fair is not an effective recruiting activity. We may be at such a job fair at great expense and time when we only have one opening to fill. However, we continue to attend at least one job fair per year to promote KERA and KXT awareness in the community.

 We clearly advertise our commitment to equal employment opportunity at the station. Our employment application includes a statement of policy that the organization is an Equal Opportunity Employer; and we continue to ensure that all advertising for each open position states that KERA/KXT is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

 The employment section of our website www.kera.org includes information about equal opportunity employment, a listing and description of open positions, and information and links that invite viewers to explore additional opportunities in broadcasting at NPR, PBS, CPB and TAB.

 KERA/KXT makes our presence known throughout the community by participating in a number of educational, arts and news related activities and events throughout the year that are open to the public. We also host events on and off of our premises for various community groups. These activities and events promote outreach and generally raise community awareness about KERA/KXT. Examples of events include, but are not limited to, Earth Day Dallas; Arts Park; Downton Abby free film screenings; Day at the Perot Museum for children and parents in conjunction with the Crystal Charity Ball; Sponsoring children for a live production of Stuart Little (also Crystal Charity Ball) at the Dallas Children’s Theater, followed by activities; sponsorship of the Wild Kratts presentation for children at the Music Hall; free screening and discussion of the documentary film, Earth a New Wild; free screening and discussion of documentary film, Cancer the Emperor of All Maladies; participation in the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, Texas, and numerous other events, broadcasts and productions, such as our American Graduate Initiative, One Crisis Away program and many varied topics on our daily radio program, Think. We seek to be recognized as providing valuable services to our community, thus encouraging individuals to explore employment opportunities at KERA/KXT when we have positions available.
