2020 YEAR-END EDITION REPUBLIC #1 FOR 7TH STRAIGHT YEAR Interscope Runner Up; Columbia Surges To #3 Spot • The 2020 chart year is based on the time period from November 10, 2019 through November 7, 2020. • All spins are tallied for the full 52 weeks and then converted into percentages for the chart share. • The final chart share includes all applicable label split-credit as submitted to Mediabase during the year. • For artists, if a song had split-credit, each artist featured was given the same percentage for the artist category that was assigned to the label share. • Nine formats contribute to the overall number: Top 40, Rhythmic, Urban, Urban AC, Hot AC, AC, Active Rock, Alternative, and Triple A. REPUBLIC #1 Overall For 7th Straight Year • For the 7th consecutive year, REPUBLIC was the #1 label for Mediabase chart share. Republic was #1 overall with a 15.8% of the total share. • They also landed the top spot at Top 40 with 18.6%, Hot AC at 23.0% and AC at 26.4%. • Besides finishing #1 at three formats, Republic was #2 at Rhythmic and Triple A, #4 at Urban AC, #5 at Urban and Alternative, and #6 at Active Rock. REPUBLIC Song Highlights: • The Weeknd “Blinding Lights” and Post Malone’s “Circles” gave Republic the top two songs at Top 40 for the chart year. • The aforementioned “Circles,” which was a multi-format #1 song, also was the year’s #1 hit at Hot AC, while “Blinding Lights” came in at #4. • Jonas Brothers “Sucker” was #3 for the year at AC, while “Only Human” was #9 at Hot AC. © 2020 Mediabase 2 REPUBLIC Artist Highlights: • The Weeknd was #1 Most Played Artist at Top 40, #5 at Rhythmic, and #8 at Hot AC. • Post Malone #4 at Top 40, #5 AC, #6 Hot AC, and #7 Rhythmic. • Jonas Brothers were #1 AC and #2 at Hot AC. • Drake was #2 Rhythmic and #4 at Urban. • Killers were top 5 at both Alternative and Triple A. • Pop Smoke (Urban), Shawn Mendes (AC), Taylor Swift (Hot AC), Toni Braxton (Urban AC), and Volbeat (Active Rock) also came in top 10 at their respective formats. Interscope Runner Up For 3rd Year; Top 3 For 4th Straight; Grows 17% INTERSCOPE Format Highlights: • INTERSCOPE saw its market share grow 17% from 12.7%-14.9% from 2019. • The label also scored three #1 finishes, winning Rhythmic, Urban, and Triple A. • Interscope finished #2 at three formats: Top 40, Hot AC, and Alternative, that led them to a #1 or #2 finish at six of the nine formats that contribute to the overall total. • The label remained 2nd at Top 40, and went 13.0%-17.7% – up 36%. • Rhythmic went 3rd-1st (12.3%-17.3%) -- up 41%. • Urban went 2nd-1st (13.0%-19.5%) – up 50%. INTERSCOPE Song And Artist Highlights: • Interscope had three of the top five songs of 2020 at Rhythmic with “Ballin,” by Mustard featuring Roddy Ricch at #2, “Rockstar” by DaBaby featuring Roddy Ricch at #3, and “Blueberry Faygo” by Lil Mosey at #5. • Mustard and Ricch’s “Ballin” was the #1 Urban song of the year. • Meanwhile, “Bop,” by DaBaby ranked #5, Rod Wave’s “Heart On Ice,” featuring Lil Durk at #6, and Summer Walker’s “Playing Games” at #10 gave Interscope four of the top 10 at the Urban format in 2020. “Playing Games” also landed at #4 at Urban AC. • Maroon 5’s “Memories” ended 2020 at #2 at both Hot AC and AC. • Billie Eilish’s “everything I wanted” was #3 at Alternative, while Tame Impala’s “Lost In Yesterday” was #8. • “Yesterday” also finished 4th for the year at Triple A. © 2020 Mediabase 3 • Moving to artists, a huge year for DaBaby – who landed the top spot at both the Rhythmic and Urban formats. • Rod Wave (#5), Mustard (#7), and Summer Walker (#9) were all top 10 most played artists at Urban – giving Interscope four of the top 10 at the format. • Summer Walker was also #7 at Urban AC and Mustard #9 at Rhythmic. • Maroon 5 was #3 at AC, #5 at Hot AC, and #9 at Top 40. • Billie Eilish came in at #2 at Alternative. • Interscope had three of the top 10 most played artists at Triple A with Tame Impala (#6), Michael Kiwanuka (#8), and Dermot Kennedy (#10). • Tame Impala was 9th at Alternative as well. Columbia Soars From 7th to 3rd Overall – Up 115% In Share From 2019 COLUMBIA scored a giant gain over 2019, moving from 7th place and a 4.7% label share to 3rd place with 10.1% -- a growth of 115%. Columbia, along with Republic and Interscope, were the only three labels to score double digit label shares overall. COLUMBIA Format Highlights: • Columbia went from 6th to 3rd at Top 40, going from 5.4% last year to 13.9% in 2020 -- up a staggering 157%. • At Rhythmic, a late surge pushed Columbia into the top 5, and their share was up 4.7%-9.1% -- a gain of 94%. • Urban went 4.2%-7.1% (+69%). • Last year, Columbia had a 0.9% share at AC. This year the label made a huge comeback to finish top 5 with 10.3% -- an increase of 1,022%. • At Hot AC, Columbia finished at #4 with 11.2% -- up from 8th place and 3.7% in 2019 – a gain of 202%. • Columbia’s gains at high airplay formats was very key to their success COLUMBIA Song And Artist Highlights: • Harry Styles “Adore You” finished 2020 as the #4 song at Top 40, #5 at Hot AC, and #9 at AC. • Maren Morris “The Bones” was #6 at Hot AC and #7 at AC. • Russ & BIA “Best On Earth” was #9 at Rhythmic. • Noah Cyrus “July” was #5 at Triple A. • For artist, a big year was had by Harry Styles, who ranked #3 at Top 40, #4 at Hot AC, and #7 at AC. • Maren Morris was #6 at AC and #10 at Hot AC. © 2020 Mediabase 4 Capitol Strong Again With 4th Overall Finish; Top 3 At Four Formats CAPITOL, who was 3rd in 2019, was a very solid 4th in 2020. They also wound up scoring a top 3 finish in four different formats. CAPITOL Format Highlights: • Capitol was only one of four labels to score a double digit share at Top 40, landing 10.8% of the format share this year – ranking 4th. • The label moved into the top 3 at Urban (up from 4th last year) with 11.5% of the share. • For the second year in a row, they were top 3 at Urban AC – while increasing its market share 30% (7.3%-9.5%). • AC and Hot AC were also big formats for Capitol – jumping 5th to 2nd at AC, and landed in the top 3 for a second year at Hot AC. • Capitol moved from 7th to 5th at Triple A. CAPITOL Song And Artist Highlights: • Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” finished the year at #1 on the AC chart, and ranked 7th at Hot AC. • Capaldi’s follow up “Before You Go” was 8th at Hot AC and 9th at Top 40. • Kem’s “Lie To Me” was #7 at Urban AC. • Sam Smith & Normani’s “Dancing With A Stranger” was #10 at AC. • Moving to artists, scoring back-to-back #1 hits over the last year has made Lewis Capaldi a key artist at multiple formats. • Capaldi was #1 at Hot AC, #2 AC, and #5 at Top 40. • Lil Baby was #2 at Urban and #8 at Rhythmic. • Kem was #4 at Urban AC. © 2020 Mediabase 5 Atlantic Rounds Out Top 5 Overall; Gets Ricch At Rhythmic, Urban ATLANTIC finished out the top 5 with an 8.4% of the total share. They ranked top 5 at five formats. ATLANTIC Format Highlights: • Atlantic was #2 at Urban, #3 at Alternative, #4 at Rhythmic and Active Rock, and #5 Urban AC. • Atlantic was just shy of the top 5 with a #6 finish at Top 40 and Hot AC. ATLANTIC Song And Artist Highlights: • Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” was #1 at Rhythmic and #2 at Urban. • Ricch’s “High Fashion,” featuring Mustard finished #3 at Urban and #4 at Rhythmic. • It should also be noted that Ricch was featured on Mustard’s “Ballin’” at #2 Rhythmic and #1 Urban for 2020, and DaBaby’s “Rockstar,” which was #3 Rhythmic. • Roddy Ricch was either the lead or featured artist on the top 4 songs of 2020 at Rhythmic, and top 3 at Urban. • Atlantic had three of the top 6 songs at Rhythmic with the two Ricch songs and Jack Harlow’s “What’s Poppin”. • Harlow’s song also was #9 at Urban for the year. • Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber’s “I Don’t Care” was #4 at AC. • Absofacto’s “Dissolve” was #2 at Alternative and Matt Maeson’s “Hallucinogenics” was #10. • Coldplay’s “Orphans” was #6 at Triple A. • On the artist side, Roddy Ricch was #3 at both Rhythmic and Urban. • Lizzo was #6 at Top 40, while Mahalia was #10 at Urban AC. • Shinedown nabbed the #4 slot at Active Rock. • Absofacto (#4) and Matt Maeson (#7) were top 10 at Alternative. RCA 6th Overall; Scores Top 5 At Four Formats • RCA was 6th this year with a top 5 finish at four formats. • They led the way at Urban AC with a 17.7% share, and had a big year at Rhythmic, where they came in 3rd with a 12.1% share.
