These trees, which form part of Sheffield’s natural capital, are generally recognised and appreciated for their amenity, presence and stature in the cityscape and surroundings. However, society is often unaware of the many other benefits (or ecosystem services) that trees provide to those living in our towns and cities. The trees in and around our urban areas (together with woodlands, shrubs, hedges, open grass, green space and wetland) are collectively known as the ‘urban forest’. This urban forest improves our air, protects watercourses, saves energy, and improves economic sustainability1. There are also many health and well-being benefits associated with being in close proximity to trees and there is a growing research base to support this2. Sheffield’s street trees are a crucial part of the city’s urban forest, rural areas and woodlands. Many of the benefits that Sheffield’s urban forest provides are offered through its street trees. Economic valuation of the benefits provided by our natural capital3 (including the urban forest) can help to mitigate for development impacts, inform land use changes and reduce any potential impact through planned intervention to avoid a net loss of natural capital. Such information can be used to help make better management decisions. Yet, as the benefits provided by such natural capital are often poorly understood, they are often undervalued in the decision making process.

To be able to create deeper connections with people in Attercliffe and Darnall to help grow ATTERCLIFFE & DARNALL CENTRE OF MISSION the Christian community. August 2020 Bible verse Isaiah 43:19 Our last newsletter was at the beginning of the time we now call “lockdown”! And we were settling into our new home and the new roles in a new area of Sheffield. While it was strange and a potential challenge to start in such uncertain times, it has enabled us to establish some good rhythms of prayer and of rest. So we are now well settled in our new home, and have really got to know the local area – including the towpaths and river walks we discovered on those permitted one hour exercises! We continue to deliver 3 times a week for the local Foodbank, which has enabled us to get to know the area, and to meet people, albeit on their doorsteps. We have taken the opportunity, when delivering, to let people know who we are by putting fliers in the food deliveries and chatting when appropriate. It was good to dress up for VE day and deliver food We have continued our online activity – with meditations on Monday and Thursday, and Examen on Sunday and Wednesday – via Facebook Live and Instagram Live. We started a small group gathering on Zoom early on, Let’s Talk, where we watch a short video and talk about how it relates to our life and faith.

COVID-19 Gold Command Update The Trust is currently responding to the on-going implications of the COVID-19 pandemic which, alongside continuing to care for a small number of patients with COVID-19, has now moved into the Reset second phase. The change in emphasis from Response to Reset has enabled reconsideration of the command structure arrangements which have been reconfigured to provide appropriate support to the Reset agenda. Given the rapidly changing situation a verbal update and presentation will be provided at the meeting. 2. Integrated Performance Report The Integrated Performance Report is attached at Appendix A. Each Director will highlight the key issues for the Board of Directors. 3. Legacy Park Limited I am pleased to announce Lucy Melleney, Chief Executive of Darnall Well Being has been appointed to the Board of Directors at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, as a founding Member of Legacy Park Limited, is delighted to welcome Lucy to the Board as a Community Director. The Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park brings together a unique partnership of organisations with a vested interest in improving physical activity and wellbeing and a commitment to harnessing the power of education, research and innovation to deliver transformational change.
