Advisory Board Welcome Welcome to the 15th Annual Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska. On behalf of the Cattlemen’s Ball Advisory Board thank you for being a part of this special weekend! I hope you get to laugh out loud, sing your heart out, be moved to tears, dance like no one is watching, shop and buy one-of-a-kind things, eat delicious beef, and have a wonderful time! Over the years the Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska has teamed up with Eppley Cancer Center and 15 Host Families and Communities to carry out our mission of raising funds for cancer research, while promoting beef in a healthy diet and showcasing rural Nebraska. The Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska has donated over $7 million to cancer research plus supporting health care in many local communities. Each and every host family, community and guest to a Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska should be proud that their efforts are yielding results. We all have a connection to cancer, and our efforts are making a difference! The Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska Advisory Board is delighted to introduce the Ralph & Beverly Holzfaster family, along with the Neal Hansen family as the 2013 Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska hosts. These two families have a long and distinguished history with the cattle industry and a great commitment to giving back to the community. This year the local chairmen of the Ball are Tim Holzfaster, Jon Holzfaster, Doug Teaford, & Greg Wilke. Your hosts and many wonderful volunteers have worked extremely hard to bring you a fun-filled day! Their great efforts will contribute greatly to cancer research and to this local community’s health care. We thank you! When you see these folks, please extend a word of gratitude for their tremendous gifts of time and talent to this year’s event! Thank-you to all the donors who have helped make today possible. Take a look around at the decorations, the auction items, the activities, and the food - all made possible by our donors! Thank you again for your generosity and commitment to “On the Trail to a Cure!” Please enjoy your day with the Holzfaster and Hansen families. We will see you next year in picturesque Banner County. We are happy to be your hosts for this year’s Cattlemen’s Ball. It has been a year of unbelievable generosity of time, talent, items, and dollars! We know where the real credit is due and our thanks go out to all the volunteers and donors who have worked together to make this happen. Have a wonderful time, meet old friends... Make new friends... As you help Eppley “ON THE TRAIL TO A CURE.” Ralph & Beverly Holzfaster of Paxton, Nebraska, are lifelong Nebraska family farmers. They raised their five children on the farm Ralph’s parents homesteaded south of Paxton. Today the third and forth generations of family members are actively engaged in the farming and cattle feeding operation. Ralph was an Air Force Pilot and Missle Launch officer at Cape Kennedy. He came back to the farm, married Beverly, a Teacher in Paxton. They followed the harvest for 7 years, helped develop stubble mulch practices with Noble, Kraus, sunflower & Flex King. Farmed with Morrison-Quirk Co. at mile 26 Alcan hi-way. Worked with center pivot irrigation for 42 years, served on the Nebraska Ethanol Board, and completed 24 years on the Nebraska Public Board. Of all the opportunities we have had, working with the Cattlemen’s Ball, and the Eppley cancer center has been the most rewarding. Beverly and I are both cancer survivors. For your generosity & support, our heartfelt THANKS. Beverly and Ralph Neal Hansen was born and raised in eastern Nebraska. The 2013 Cattlemen’s Ball will be held on Neal’s Hanging H Ranch near Sutherland. Neal’s grandparents were second generation Nebraska farmers. He returned to Nebraska after serving in the U.S. Navy and attended the University of Nebraska, earning his degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the founding management team of First Data Resources, President and CEO of Applied Communications, President-Data Services Group US West and Chairman and CEO of CSG Systems. He is active in a number of educational, healthcare and youth development organizations. 2 Cattlemens Ball 2013 Hansen’s Hanging H Ranch! The 2013 Cattlemen’s Ball will be held at the beautiful Hanging H Ranch near Sutherland, Nebraska. The ranch includes substantial South Platte riverfront and wildlife habitat. It is the perfect setting for the Cattlemen’s Ball. The ranch operation includes grain and hay production, a registered herd of Angus cattle and performance and ranch-bred quarter horses. A significant effort has been undertaken at the ranch to restore pasturelands, create and improve wildlife habitat and work in partnership with Ducks Unlimited in protecting and restoring wetlands. The Holzfaster’s Farm - it is in the 4th generation located 13 miles southwest of Paxton. Because of the accessabilities we are privilidged to be co-hosts with the Neal Hansen family and the Hanging H Ranch. We would be happy to have you come anytime. The coffee is always on. Ralph Beverly and all our family 3 Cattlemens Ball 2013 Welcome from the Chairmen We are pleased to welcome you, our guests, to another spectacular Cattlemen’s Ball. In addition to the excellent food and entertainment you have come to expect at each year’s Ball, other activities including a Ranch Rodeo have been added for your 2013 enjoyment. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the 40 committee chair-people and their volunteers committed to making sure this year’s Ball again succeeds in raising significant funds for health care research. Volunteers have come forward from communities in Keith, Lincoln, and Perkins counties—from FFA youth groups to Knights of Columbus and many other civic groups—we are proud and grateful for the way you have stepped up—to all of you we say “THANK YOU!” We applaud the vision and dedication of our co-hosts, Ralph and Beverly Holzfaster and Neal Hansen; their determined efforts have been very inspirational. We also appreciate the opportunity to hold this 2013 Ball at Neal Hansen’s Hanging H Ranch—certainly this ranch is “showcasing rural Nebraska at its finest.” The ranch is crossed by many historic trails, “ON THE TRAIL TO A CURE” the theme for this year’s Ball, is no less historic. It is the hope of all of us that you, our guests, have an enjoyable and memorable Cattlemen’s Ball – 2013. Tim Holzfaster Jon Holzfaster Greg Wilke Doug Teaford Committee Chairs!
