“THE ART OF ADVENTURE TRAVEL”

Welcome to the world of Adventure Travel, CNE STYLE. As we entered our Seventh decade, World peace and the environment are the uppermost in the minds of ourselves and many others. What does travel have to do with either? More than meets the eye on the surface, and that’s Where the Art of Adventure Travel comes in. It’s an artist’s job to see beneath the surface, and present the essence of a subject. At CNE, our itineraries are designed and our staff & trek escorts are chosen, Probably the best available in the Adventure World, with a view to enabling you to get beneath the surface, to gain insights into what the world looks like from the perspective of the local people you are meeting. When you arrive in a new destination, it is natural that it may feel Quaint, exotic and colourful. Our people will make you feel at home even at place 5000 meters above sea level. Our idea of travel is one human being meeting another, face –to– face, person –to– person, not tourist –to– native. Our key in this process is getting into areas where the local people have not yet developed the concept of tourist in their mindset. Our concern extends to the Cultural & Natural Environment of the places you visit. As we have lived in many of the places you would be visiting, we share local concern for both Environmental Pollution and Cultural Erosion. Knowing how local mindsets see the world, we are able to assist you to be both culturally and environmentally sensitive during your stay. We believe very strongly that understanding and accord among the peoples of the world can be impacted more positively by such simple people –to– people Interaction than by the Governmental or Commercial Organizations. The work of Sir Edmund Hillary in The khumbu region of Nepal is but one evidence of that belief. Your presence in our wonderful land of Mountains & Forests, Lakes & Springs, Rivers & Glaciers, Monuments & Monasteries is going to have an impact on local environment, both natural & cultural. It is in our hands to make that impact a positive or a negative one. If you share our philosophy of travel, and are looking for an Adventure Travel that will take you inside the hearts and minds of other cultures, while experiencing the beauty Of the World, we invite you to join us for the adventure of lifetime, CNE STYLE. Adventurously Yours,

NASIR SHAH Director – Operations

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS ARE ESSENTIALLY SOCIAL PROBLEMS. THEY BEGIN WITH MAN AS THE CAUSE & END WITH MAN AS THE VICTIM

Srinagar is located in the heart of the Kashmir valley at an altitude of 1,730 m (1530 feet) above sea level, spread on both sides of the river Jhelum. The Dal and Nagin lakes enhance its picturesque setting, while the changing play of the seasons and the salubrious climate ensures that the city is equally attractive to visitors around the year.

Afternoon you will visit the Mughal gardens. With terraced lawns, cascading fountains, paint-box-bright flowerbeds with the panorama of the Dal in front of them - the three Mughal Gardens of Chesmashahi, Nishat and Shalimar are the Mughal Emperors' concept of paradise and are today very popular places.

Shalimar Bagh: Built by Emperor Jehangir for his wife Nur Jehan, Shalimar Bagh, 15 kms from the TRC, is a beautiful garden with sweeping vistas over gardens and lakes, and shallow terraces. The garden is 539 m by 182 m and has four terraces, rising one above the other. A canal lined with polished stones and supplied with water from Harwan runs through the middle of the garden. The fourth terrace, by far the best, was once reserved for royal ladies.

Nishat Bagh: Situated on the banks of the Dal Lake, with the Zabarwan Mountains as its backdrop, (11 km. from TRC), this 'garden of bliss' commands a magnificent view of the lake and the snow capped Pir Panjal mountain range which stands far away to the west of the valley. Nishat was designed in 1633 AD by Asaf Khan, brother of Nur Jehan.

Sonamarg is also a base for undertaking the yatra to the holy Amarnath cave, during Sawan Purnima. For details about the yatra, refer to the Amarnathji Yatra Link.

Day 03 Srinagar – Gulmarg – Srinagar

After breakfast drive to Gulmarg, called as “Meadow of Flowers” with picnic lunch. Gulmarg is 54 Kms from Srinagar at an altitude of 8700 – ft. Gulmarg also referred as “Switzerland of India” is a famous Ski Resort & the world’s highest 18 hole Golf Course. The place was prominent during the British time. Gulmarg's legendary beauty, prime location and proximity to Srinagar naturally make it one of the premier hill resorts in the country. Originally called ‘Gaurimarg’ by shepherds, its present name was given in the 16th century by Sultan Yusuf Shah, who was inspired by the sight of its grassy slopes emblazoned with wild flowers.

Gulmarg was a favourite haunt of Emperor Jehangir who once collected 21 different varieties of flowers from here. Today Gulmarg is not merely a mountain resort of exceptional beauty- it also has the highest green golf course in the world, at an altitude of 2,650 m, and is the country's premier ski resort in the winter.

The journey to Gulmarg is half the enchantment of reaching there - roads bordered by rigid avenues of poplar give over to flat expanses of rice fields interspersed with picturesque villages. Depending on the season, nature's colors could be the translucent green of spring, summer’s rich emerald, or autumn’s golden hues, when scarlet chilies festoon windows of village homes. After Tangmarg, the climb to Gulmarg begins through fir-covered hillsides. At one point, known simply as View Point, travelers generally stop their vehicles for a few minutes and look out a spectacle of snow-covered mountains, almost within touching distance.

The gorgeous hill resort of Gulmarg is dotted with sites of interest for the tourists. Khilanmarg is the spot for skiing in winters. You must enjoy the views of the Kashmir valley and the Himalayan range from Khilanmarg. It takes a couple of hours by pony, to reach Khilanmarg as it is slightly longer on foot. Then there is the Alpather Lake, a picturesque alpine lake that remains frozen until late June. From Khilanmarg the lake lies across the Apharwat peak. Adventure seekers must take the one-day and thirteen km trip to the Alpather Lake from Gulmarg.

Day 04 Srinagar – Pahalgam

After breakfast you will be driven to Pahalgam, also called as “Valley of Shepherds” situated at the confluence of the streams flowing from and the , Pahalgam (2,130 m) was once a humble shepherd's Village with breathtaking views. A number of hotels and lodges cater to all preferences and budgets, from luxurious hotels to unpretentious trekkers' lodges.

Around Pahalgam are many places of interest, and because the resort is set between fairly steep hills, it is worth hiring a pony rather than walking. Pony fares are posted at prominent locations. Once a shepherd's village, Pahalgam is now a fully developed hill resort and has some good hotels and tourist amenities. The hill station is also the base camp for the pilgrimage to the Amarnath Caves. While staying at hotels in Pahalgam, one can enjoy fishing, trekking, horse riding and golfing. Dinner & Overnight at Hotel Heevan

Pahalgam has within it no fewer than eight tiny villages, one of which is Mamal. There is a Shiva temple here, generally considered to be Kashmir's oldest existing temple, dating to the 5th century. Pahalgam is also associated with the annual Amarnath Yatra. Chandanwari (2,895 m), 16 kms from Pahalgam, is the starting point of the yatra that takes place every year in the month of Sawan (July to August). The road from Pahalgam to Chandanwari is on fairly flat terrain and can be undertaken by car. From Chandanwari onwards the track becomes much steeper, and is accessible on foot or by pony. About 11 kms from Chandanwari is the mountain lake of Sheshnag (3,574 m), after which, 13 kms away is the last stop, . The Amarnath cave is 6 kms away from there. During the month of Sawan, an ice stalagmite forms a natural shivling in the Amarnath cave, which waxes and wanes with the moon. Dinner & Overnight stay at Hotel.
