HOTEL INFORMATION, 2018 MEETING May 11-12, 2018 Boston University School of Law 765 Commonwealth Avenue Boston, MA 02215 (All Sessions will be held at the School of Law) IMPORTANT: NOTE DEADLINE FOR RESERVATIONS IS APRIL 10, 2018 (After that date, reservations will be on a space-available basis) Hotels in Boston are very expensive this time of year, and we encourage everyone to book their lodging as soon as possible. The ALEA was able to procure only a limited number of rooms to block for this year’s meeting, given the other events that are going on in Boston during the month of May. The Hotel Commonwealth in Boston and the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge both have small blocks of rooms available for Thursday and Friday nights. The Hotel Commonwealth is within walking distance to the School of Law. In addition to the Hotel Commonwealth and the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, the Boston Hotel Buckminster has agreed to give ALEA participants a discount of 15% off the rack rate per night on a space-available basis. The room rates won’t be posted until April, but the hotel expects the room prices in May to be somewhere between $220-$250 a night. Below is the contact information for all three hotels, as well as information about other neighborhoods in Boston which will open up more lodging options, many of which are easily accessible to the Law School by the “T,” which is the nickname for the Boston underground rail system. • Eliot Asinof - Eight Men Out
Eliot Asinof - Eight Men Out Eight Men Out The Black Sox and the 1919 World Series Eliot Asinof 1963 To Gahan and Marty "As Jackson departed from the Grand Jury room, a small boy clutched at his sleeve and tagged along, after him. "'Say it ain't so, Joe,' he pleaded. 'Say it ain't so.'" —Chicago Herald and Examiner, September 30, 1920 "The most gigantic sporting swindle in the history of America!" These headlines proclaiming the 1919 fix of the World Series startled millions of readers and focused the attention of the entire country on one of the most incredible episodes ever to be enacted in the public eye. Now, after painstaking research, Eliot Asinof has reconstructed the entire scene-by-scene story of this fantastic scandal in which eight Chicago White Sox players arranged with the nation's leading gamblers to throw the series to Cincinnati. Mr. Asinof vividly describes the tense meetings, the hitches in the conniving, the actual plays in which the Series was thrown, the Grand Jury indictment, and the famous 1921 trial. Moving behind the scenes, he perceptively examines the motives and backgrounds of the players and the conditions that made the improbable fix all too possible. Here are the anguished, guilty pitchers, Eddie Cicotte and "Lefty" Williams; the bewildered, fixed left fielder, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson; and the victimized third baseman, "Buck" Weaver. There are also deft portrayals of Charles Comiskey and Ban Johnson, as well as of deeply shocked newspapermen like Ring Lardner. The graphic picture of the American underworld which managed the fix lends eerie fascination to the book.

BUSINESS bu.edu/jam ADVANCING BUSINESS EDUCATION EDUCATION @BusinessEdJam THE NEXT BUSINESS JAM: A COLLABORATIVE GLOBAL JAM PLATFORM TO ADVANCE BUSINESS EDUCATION Business Education Jam 2019: Global Symposium Boston University Questrom School of Business Boston, Massachusetts, USA November 11-12, 2019 OUR PROGRESS Over the last two years an incredible platform emerged to advance dialogue on the future of business education. Building off the momentum of the Business Education Jam in 2014, which attracted over 5,700 participants for an online brainstorm, our new goal was to attract viewpoints from across the world to better identify distinctive regional identities which shape challenges and their solutions. These conversations, framed as Business Education Jam: Global Conversations, reached a global scale by partnering with host schools in different regions across the world to advance new ideas and insights. Each conversation engaged participants through a variety of channels virtually, such as facebook, twitter, or webex, and included an on-site symposium. A total of 9 regional dialouges have been completed over the last two years and it is now time for our culminating event: the Business Education Jam Global Symposium to be held in Boston on November 11th - 12th, 2019. Why a Global Symposium? The purpose of coming to Boston is not just to continue the dialogues from all Jam regions, but to create a gathering where we can collaborate and advance projects around the shared challenges and opportunities we've identified. The majority of our time in Boston will include participant-selected working groups around actionable themes that have emerged from the regional jams.
