  • Comparison of the Orbital Properties of Jupiter Trojan Asteroids and Trojan Dust Xiaodong Liu and Jürgen Schmidt
A&A 614, A97 (2018) https://doi.org/10.1051/0004-6361/201832806 Astronomy & © ESO 2018 Astrophysics Comparison of the orbital properties of Jupiter Trojan asteroids and Trojan dust Xiaodong Liu and Jürgen Schmidt Astronomy Research Unit, University of Oulu, 90014 Oulu, Finland e-mail: [email protected] Received 10 February 2018 / Accepted 7 March 2018 ABSTRACT In a previous paper we simulated the orbital evolution of dust particles from the Jupiter Trojan asteroids ejected by the impacts of interplanetary particles, and evaluated their overall configuration in the form of dust arcs. Here we compare the orbital properties of these Trojan dust particles and the Trojan asteroids. Both Trojan asteroids and most of the dust particles are trapped in the Jupiter 1:1 resonance. However, for dust particles, this resonance is modified because of the presence of solar radiation pressure, which reduces the peak value of the semi-major axis distribution. We find also that some particles can be trapped in the Saturn 1:1 resonance and higher order resonances with Jupiter. The distributions of the eccentricity, the longitude of pericenter, and the inclination for Trojans and the dust are compared. For the Trojan asteroids, the peak in the longitude of pericenter distribution is about 60 degrees larger than the longitude of pericenter of Jupiter; in contrast, for Trojan dust this difference is smaller than 60 degrees, and it decreases with decreasing grain size. For the Trojan asteroids and most of the Trojan dust, the Tisserand parameter is distributed in the range of two to three. Key words. meteorites, meteors, meteoroids – planets and satellites: rings – minor planets, asteroids: general – zodiacal dust – celestial mechanics – solar wind 1.

  • “Unlimited” Tolerance in Linguoculture
Armenian Folia Anglistika Culture On Some Forms of “Out-Group” Intolerance and “Unlimited” Tolerance in Linguoculture Narine Harutyunyan Yerevan State University Abstract The subject of the research is ethnic intolerance as a form of relationship between “we” and “other”, manifested in various modifications of the hostility towards others. There are several main types of ethno-intolerant relations: ethnocentrism; xenophobia, migrant phobia, etc. The author's definitions of such concepts as “intercultural whirlpool”, “ethnocentric craters” and “xenophobic craters”, “emotional turbulence of communication” are presented. The negative, discreditable signs of ethnicity of a particular national community are represented in the lexical units of English in such a way as if the “other” ethnic group has the shortcomings that are not in the “we” group. The problem of “unlimited” tolerance is considered when “strangers” – immigrants, seek to impose “their own” religious and cultural traditions, worldview and psychological dominant on local people. The article deals with the problems of intolerance and “unlimited” tolerance not only as complex socio-psychological, but also as linguocultural phenomena that are actualized in the linguistic consciousness of the ethnic group (English-speaking groups, in particular). The article also deals with the problem of “aggressive” expansion of the English language, which destroys the nation’s value system, distorts its language habits and perception of the surrounding reality, and creates discriminatory dominance of a certain linguoculture. Key words: ethnocentrism, xenophobia, migrant phobia, tolerance, linguistic hegemony. 130 Culture Armenian Folia Anglistika Introduction In the 21st century, the relevance of language learning in conjunction with extralinguistic factors has significantly increased, since the world today is multi-polar and multicultural.

  • Coen Brothers' Fargo in the Noir Melting Pot of Genre Patterns
Acta Universitatis Wratislaviensis • No 3869 Literatura i Kultura Popularna XXIV, Wrocław 2018 DOI: 10.19195/0867-7441.24.4 Kamila Żyto ORCID: 0000-0003-2822-8341 University of Łódź Detours of absurdity: Coen brothers’ Fargo in the noir melting pot of genre patterns Keywords: film noir, film history, film genres, cinema of Coen brothers Słowa kluczowe: film noir, historia filmu, gatunki filmowe, kino braci Coen The long-lasting debate over whether film noir should be seen as a genre, a cycle or a tendency in the history of cinema remains unsettled. No definitive solution has been found, nor any consensus reached, owing to the fact that the film noir phenomenon is particularly complex and convoluted. Much of the debate revolves around questions of approach and genre. But many movies, both those released in the 1940s and 1950s (the classical period) and those released in the following decades (the neo-noir, or postclassical, period), do not obviously fit any genre pattern or other ordering scheme. The diversity among films that are now unquestionably classified as noir, provokes controversy and raises numerous questions. What does Sunset Boulevard (dir. Billy Wilder, 1950) have in common with The Killers (dir. Robert Siodmak, 1946)? The first one is simultaneously a crime story, melodrama and horror. The second one is, without a doubt, a gang- ster movie. Do all noir films really constitute a single genre? I will leave this question unanswered, as to support any of the various opinions about the generic identity of film noir is not the main aim of this paper.1 From my perspective, there is little utility in joining this on-going debate, which has reached a standstill some time ago.

DISCUS will be operated either as an independent mission or accompanying a larger one. It is designed to determine the internal macro- porosity of a 260{600 m diameter Near Earth Asteroid (NEA) from a few kilometers distance. The main goal will be to achieve a global penetration with a low-frequency signal as well as to analyze the scattering strength for various different penetration depths and measurement positions. Moreover, the measurements will be inverted through a computed radar tomography (CRT) approach. The scientific data provided by DISCUS would bring more knowledge of the internal configuration of rubble pile asteroids and their colli- sional evolution in the Solar System. It would also advance the design of future asteroid deflection concepts. We aim at a single-unit (1U) radar design equipped with a half-wavelength dipole antenna. The radar will utilize a stepped-frequency modulation technique the baseline of which was developed for ESA's technology projects GINGER and PIRA.
