The Thomas Cole National Historic Site marks the birthplace of this nation’s first major art movement, now known as the , founded by the American artist Thomas Cole (1801-1848). Located in the Hudson River Valley, the national historic site includes Thomas Cole’s 1815 Main House, 1839 Old Studio, and the recently reconstructed 1846 New Studio and gallery, with gardens and grounds overlooking a sweeping view of the Catskill Mountains. The site is an affiliate of the and operates as a forward-thinking, independent nonprofit organization. Our vision is to be the leading source for education and scholarship that inspires cultural and environmental awareness of the American landscape and the continuing impact of Thomas Cole’s art and ideas.
