Eurokai was founded by Kurt Eckelmann in 1961. Today, through the holding Eurogate and Contship Italia, it operates and controls the largest shipping line independent container terminal network in Europe. Eurokai is managed by Thomas Eckelmann, whose vision and entrepreneurial commitment in developing the Italian container terminals business was given official recognition in June 2006, when he was made a “Commendatore” of the Italian Republic (Order of Merit). The sixth generation of the Eckelmann family, represented by Tom and Katja, is now representing Eurokai in the Contship Italia Group’s Board.
