  • Genetic Assessment of Some Pheasant Species from Dhodial Pheasantry Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
Pakistan J. Zool., vol. 47(6), pp. 1739-1742, 2015. Genetic Assessment of Some Pheasant Species from Dhodial Pheasantry Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Lubna Shahi,1 Inamullah,2,* Munawar Saleem Ahmad,3 Ikram Muhammad2 and Shahi Mulk1 1Department of Zoology, Hazara University, Mansehra, Pakistan 2Department of Genetics, Hazara University, Mansehra, Pakistan 3Department of Zoology, University of Swabi, Swabi , Pakistan Abstract-. The present research was carried out to distinguish three species of pheasants at molecular level. Fourteen RAPD Primers were used over the nine samples of three pheasant species. On average 3.35 alleles were amplified and the average genetic distance estimated was 7%-63%. Nine samples of three species were clustered into two groups using dendrogram. Group A comprised of samples of Lady Amherst (Chrysolophus amherstiae) and Golden pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus) while group B comprised of Yellow Golden (Chrysolophus pictus mut. luteus). It is concluded that the Lady Amherst and Yellow Golden are most distantly related, so the crossing of these two species is recommended for creating maximum genetic diversity. Key words: Genetic diversity, random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Lady Amherst pheasant. INTRODUCTION The town is prominent around the world for a conservation project for Pheasants. A Pheasantry facilitates for the breeding of pheasants is present. It District Mansehra is located in the North was recognized to conserve ring necked pheasant East of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is at an elevation of and also other exotic pheasants. Currently there are 975.36 meters (3200 feet) (Anonymous, 2009). Its 400 cages for more than 4000 birds. Well-known total area is 4,579 Km2.

  • A Drama of Saintly Devotion Performing Ecstasy and Status at the Shaam-E-Qalandar Festival in Pakistan Amen Jaffer
A Drama of Saintly Devotion Performing Ecstasy and Status at the Shaam-e-Qalandar Festival in Pakistan Amen Jaffer Figure 1. Dancing the dhama\l in Sehwan in front of Shahbaz Qalandar’s tomb, 7 February 2011. (Photo by Saad Hassan Khan) On the evening of 16 February 2017, the dhamal\ 1 ritual at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan, Pakistan, was tragically cut short when a powerful bomb ripped through a crowd of devotees, killing 83 and injuring hundreds (Khan and Akbar 2017).2 Seven years prior, in January 2010, I was witness to another dhama\l performance in the same courtyard of this 13th- century Sufi saint’s shrine (fig. 2). On that evening, the courtyard, which faces Qalandar’s tomb, 1. Dhama\l is a ritualized expression of love, desire, and connection with a saint as well as a celebration of the saint’s powers and miracles. It can take the form of dance or music. For treatments of the ritual sensibilities of this genre see Frembgen (2012) and Abbas (2002:33–35). For an analysis of its musical form and style see Wolf (2006). 2. Sehwan is a small city in the southeast province of Sindh that is best known as the site for Shahbaz Qalandar’s tomb and shrine. More recently, analysis of breast carcinomas from in Pakistani population The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database revealed strong positive Mohsin Iqbal correlation between tumors’epithelial to mesenchymal (EMT) score Shaheed Zulfqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad, Pakistan and the expression of O2·− regulator MnSOD. This positive correlation Correspondence: Mohsin Iqbal between MnSOD and EMT score was signifcant and consistent across European Journal of Medical Research 2017, 22(Suppl 1):S1 all breast cancer subtypes. Interestingly, using phenotypically distinct breast cancer cell lines, we provided evidence that constitutively high Hereditary hearing impairment is one of the common monogenic or induced expression of MnSOD promotes the EMT-like phenotype disorder in Pakistan. It is estimated that around 0.16% peoples have by way of a redox milieu predominantly driven by hydrogen peroxide moderate to profound prelingual hearing loss while one-third of peo- (H2O2). Conversely, gene knockdown of MnSOD results in the reversal ple above 60 years have some sort hearing problem.
