Released in 1967, after what had been essentially a media blackout on what the band had been up to, the album was immediately a sensation and was recognized as a new chapter, not just in rock music, but in the history of all music.

Invisibilia Returns WEEKDAYS What shapes the way we perceive the world around us? Do clothes Midnight-6am Rockin’ All Nite have the power to transform us? Does a “fake it ‘til you make it” 6-9am Morning Alternative mentality really work? These are just a few of the questions tackled 9am-4pm Deep Cuts in previous seasons of the popular program Invisibilia. Titled after 4-6pm World Café with David Dye 6-8pm Eclectic Evenings (F) the Latin word for invisible things, the show examines the unseen 7-9pm Out of the Box forces that control human behavior. with Paul Shugrue (M-Th) 8-10pm Shot of the Blues (F) The popular show returns this month with Season 3. “Invisibilia 9-10pm Eclectic Evenings (M,Th) is ‘best in class’ when it comes to programs that touch the 9-10pm The International Americana foundation of our human experience,” says Chuck Doud, director Music Show (T) 9-10pm Your Music Show (W) of programming and audience strategy for WHRV 89.5 FM. “Each 10-11pm Defenestration (Every day) episode offers an enlightening growth opportunity!”

Season 3 asks the question: “How Real is Reality?” The stories speak to a central question of our time: How is it that people are looking out at the same landscape and seeing completely different things? Through illuminating science and compelling stories, we question our most basic assumptions about our lives by looking at how our concepts of emotions, reality, culture, and ourselves shape what we experience. At the heart of this journey, is a challenge that is relevant to us all: How much of the world and ourselves can we change? Invisibilia is life-changing radio. Listen Thursdays at 1 p.m. to hear for yourself.

Midsummer Music

Summer begins at 12:24 a.m. on June 21. Autumn begins three months later. So when is Midsummer? Well, it is not in the middle of summer, as the name suggests. No, Midsummer is observed closer to the summer solstice, the beginning of the season, and has been for hundreds of years in various countries around the world. Given that the celebrations of summer and Midsummer have been going on for so long, one can expect a considerable body of music associated with them. And so it is: there is Mendelssohn’s score for the Shakespeare play, Alfven’s Rhapsody, even A Night on Bald Mountain for Midsummer, as well as the usual suspects for summer music, with Vivaldi and Glazunov leading the way. You can enjoy all these works and others later this month as we welcome the summer solstice on WHRO-FM, WHRJ, and WHRF.
