SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW Double-Digit Scoring 16-17 Career SIUE opened the season in Hawaii and while the visit to the Rainbow Classic was the first for SIUE, Burak Eslik 4 22 it wasn’t for SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris. He participated in the 1998 Rainbow Classic while a Carlos Anderson 3 19 Jalen Henry 2 10 freshman at Marquette. Keenan Simmons 2 7 Tre Harris 5 5 TOURNEY TIME Christian Ellis 5 5 The Rainbow Classic was SIUE’s fifth in-season tournament since moving to NCAA Division I in Josh White 0 1 2008 and first since taking part in the Cancun Challenge in November 2011. SIUE was part of the 20-Point Games 16-17 Career inaugural Charleston (South Carolina) Classic in 2008, where the Cougars earned the program’s first Burak Eslik 0 7 Division I win (83-72 over Western Michigan). SIUE won the Drake Hy-Vee Classic in 2009 and the Tre Harris 1 1 IBN Las Vegas Invitational in 2010. Keenan Simmons 0 1 NEWCOMERS APLENTY 5+ Three-Pointers 16-17 Career Burak Eslik 0 2 Harris added seven newcomers to a team which lost two starters from last season. Newcomers Tre Harris 1 1 include freshmen Justin Benton, Christian Ellis, Brandon Jackson and Kevion Stewart, sophomores D’Quan Applewhite and Julian Torres as well as junior Luka Radovic. Torres transferred from UIC Rebounding Leader 16-17 Career and must sit out the season due to Division I transfer rules. It was the first time SIUE had two players collect double-doubles in the same game Carlos Anderson 0 1 since the 2011-12 season. 3+ Steals 16-17 Career Carlos Anderson 0 5 LIVING UP TO HIS NAME Keenans Simmons 2 2 “Tre” appears to be an appropriate nickname for Harris, who is leading SIUE with 17 three-pointers. Christian Ellis 1 1 He is shooting .515 from beyond the arc and leads the team at 14.3 points a game. FAMILY AFFAIR Harris is the nephew of Head Coach Jon Harris.
