SIUE held IUPUI to 38.1 percent shooting from the field, ^Outrigger Rainbow Classic, Honolulu, Hawaii including 4 of 16 (25 percent) from three-point range. GCU earned a nine-point Scoring Leader 16-17 Career Burak Eslik 1 13 win in Edwardsville last year. SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW Double-Digit Scoring 16-17 Career SIUE opened the season in Hawaii and while the visit to the Rainbow Classic was the first for SIUE, Burak Eslik 4 22 it wasn’t for SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris. Keenan Simmons 2 7 Tre Harris 5 5 TOURNEY TIME Christian Ellis 5 5 The Rainbow Classic was SIUE’s fifth in-season tournament since moving to NCAA Division I in Josh White 0 1 2008 and first since taking part in the Cancun Challenge in November 2011. SIUE was part of the 20-Point Games 16-17 Career inaugural Charleston (South Carolina) Classic in 2008, where the Cougars earned the program’s first Burak Eslik 0 7 Division I win (83-72 over Western Michigan). SIUE won the Drake Hy-Vee Classic in 2009 and the Tre Harris 1 1 IBN Las Vegas Invitational in 2010. Newcomers Tre Harris 1 1 include freshmen Justin Benton, Christian Ellis, Brandon Jackson and Kevion Stewart, sophomores D’Quan Applewhite and Julian Torres as well as junior Luka Radovic. Torres transferred from UIC Rebounding Leader 16-17 Career and must sit out the season due to Division I transfer rules. Stewart will redshirt the season after Keenan Simmons 3 9 suffering a knee injury last season. Carlos Anderson 1 7 Jalen Henry 1 4 Burak Eslik 0 3 NOT EXACTLY NEWCOMERS Christian Ellis 1 1 Tre Harris and Glenn Pierre, Jr. sat out last season after transferring to SIUE. Harris came to SIUE from Kansas State where he scored 3.8 points per game as a freshman. Pierre transferred from 10-Rebound Games 16-17 Career College of Charleston where he scored 1.2 points per game as a sophomore. Christian Ellis 1 1 He is shooting .515 from beyond the arc and leads the team at 14.3 points a game. FAMILY AFFAIR Harris is the nephew of Head Coach Jon Harris. That’s not the only family connection. Tre’s mom, LeAnn (Bryan) Harris, played basketball at SIUE from 1991-1994 and is an Athletics Hall of Famer. RECORD SETTER Burak Eslik was the Cougars’ scoring lead for the first time this year, against IUPUI. Last season, he led the team in scoring at 14.0 points per game. He set an SIUE Division I record with 40 points against Morehead State. It was the most points last season by an OVC player.
