The start of the tournament was given by one of Bozhkov‘s closest friends and Bulgarian respected politi- cian Vili Lilkov who‘s speech was very touching. All three clubs have been participating so far in the annual traditional tourna- ment “Buba Cup”. The Serbian team is in constant cooperation with the organizers hosting the event BC Buba Basketball. It became a tradition throughout the year to organize several tournaments and control games between the teams from the two countries with participants of various age groups. Georgi Glushkov, the president of the Bul- garian Basketball Federation, greeted the teams at the opening ceremony of the tournament and wished them success in the competition. He also commended the “Buba Cup” organizers for their work and efforts that resulted in conducting this prestigious annual event for youth in Bul- garia for six years in a row. His best wishes for fair play and successful tournament resonated with the participants. In the duration of the three days, each team played against all of the other teams, thus each team playing 5 games. The Serbian team Foka won most of the games and the Cup. For the first time in the history of the tournament the trophy was secured by FIBA Europe. The “Buba Cup” Tournament entered the official calendar of FIBA Europe events, as advertised. The hosts from BC Buba Basketball rated sec- ond and the team from CSKA got the bronze medals. There were also individual awards given out to the most efficient basketball player from each team, the player with the promising long term success and the MVP of the tournament. The biggest joy and appreciation for the Bul- garian youth basketball was the award MVP being bestowed to a Bulgarian participant. Martin Angelov, Buba Basketball trained, took the title MVP and impressed everyone with his outstanding performance at all of the games during the tournament. Stefan Georgiev–Toro, former captain of BC Levski team, who announced the end of his sports career this summer, came in for the ceremony to present the awards to the young basketball players to their surprise and enjoy- ment. The individual awards were presented to the players by the basketball star from Levski team, Brandon Heath. Few of the prizes were presented by the former national player, cur- rently playing at Lukoil Academic, Simeon Naydenov. Upon completion of the award ceremony, all the teams had a chance to take team and group photos. After all, the friendship nourished dur- ing the tournament among all the participants was the most important piece of the event. зала „Христо Ботев“ cyan magenta Plate: – – hе third edition (2011) of the international basketball tournament for children, born in 2000, “Buba Cup“ was held from 21 to 25 TSeptember in “Hristo Botev“ hall, Sofia, Bulgaria. The event was attended by a total of six teams – three bulgarian and three foreign. The native representatives were Buba Basket, Levski and Rilski sportist (Samokov) and foreign teams – Junior Fructal (Macedonia), Dan Dacian (Romania) and Foca Kraguevac (Serbia). The medals in this tournament were gain from “Buba Cup“ 2011, who won bronze medals, Junior Fructal, who took second place and Dan Dacian, which fought for the title.

Like the previous years, the sporting event had a very large audience and media interest. The reason for this was the fact that from 2011 the tournament is a part of FIBA EUROPE and also because of the interesting and controversial games that the young basketball players played in “Hristo Botev“ hall. Furthermore, part of the tournament became some of the best bulgarian basketball players.

Following the good performance of our national men’s basketball team at the European Championships this year, the children were most interested in the players from the national team and especially from the captain Philip Videnov. Therefore, we invited Philip to open officially “Buba Cup“ 2011. The invitation was warmly accepted by the basketball player, who caused a real euphoria among the children with his appearance. They chanted his name and race for autographs and photos with their favourite player. The reaction of the young basketball players touched Philip and he expressed his admiration from the organization of such events and also his happiness of being a part of the tournament. „Such events should be organized more often. This is very valuable for children. I am very happy, because I didn`t expect to cause such a joy among them. I’m pleasantly surprised and very proud of that fact. I’m always happy when I can do something for children. If they enjoy I’m happy“, said one of the best bulgarian basketball players.

Empathize with the conduct of the tournament was also the legendary bulgarian basketball player George Mladenov, whose benefis was held several days after the end of “Buba Cup“ 2011. He presented the winners and gave the individual prizes, and then officially closed the basketball celebration. He did not save his kind words for the organization of the tournament and benefits of his conducting. “It`s always pleasant to be among children. It`s always pleasant to see such a perfectly organized event, which includes six teams that are the next generation, the players that we will watch at European Championships. Everything that BUBA makes in the recent years as an organization and training process is on a very high level“, commented George Mladenov. His joy was double because he had the pleasure to present the award for most valuable player for his team to his son Borislav Mladenov, who is one of the most talented children in BUBA Basketball team.

Among the basketball personalities who gave prizes to the winners was also the basketball coach of Levski Sofia Konstantin Papazov – Titi. “Bulgarian basketball should be thankful for what BUBA makes. This is something that should be taken into account and to obtain the necessary recognition, because in order to have such as Georgi Mladenov, there must be such tournaments as “Buba cup“. Stars like George ignite kids to play basketball, and more frequent contacts with other neighboring countries to us who participated in this tournament, is even more motivation for the children“, Titi said after the final of the tournament.

Exactly the continuity between generations is among the priority objectives of Buba Basketball club. The management of the club are categorical that these meetings and contacts with renowned bulgarian basketball players can provoke their young followers and to contribute to their willingness to practice and develop, and also to contribute for their purposefulness.

This year, after the end of the tournament, except with their awards, the children walked away with a lot of pleasant emotions and expectation for the next edition of the tournament. he second Buba Cup tournament in 2010 was even bigger success. Financial support to the tournament was provided by Tthe popular company Sprite which also gave the name of the cup – Sprite Buba Cup.

This time 6 teams participated – three from Bulgaria and the other three from Serbia, Macedonia and Romania. The main idea of 2010 Buba Cup was succession between the generations. The idea of the organizers was to give chance of the children to be in contact with their idols among the professional basketball players.

Official guest of the opening ceremony was the most popular US basketball player in Bulgaria – the 222 cm center of Levski Basketball Club Priest Lotherdale, who has played in several European and NBA teams. The awards at the official closing ceremony were given by 5 players of the Bulgarian national team – the captain Stefan Georgiev, his brother Zlatin Georgiev, Tencho Banev, Bojidar Avramov and Vesselin Vesselinov. Another two US basketball players playing in Bulgaria also came to visit the tournament – Aron Harper and Donald Cole.

The organization this time was even better as all of the teams were placed at the 4-star Park-hotel Vitosha, which was also partner of the tournament, and has arranged free for the children visits to the swimming pools and game-hall. All child-ren had breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The participants once again had the opportunity to sightseeing Sofia as well as they visited a game of the Bulgarian National Basketball League. he first tournament for the Buba Cup was held in September 2009. Eight teams played for 5 days in Triaditza hall in Sofia Twhich has a capacity of 1,500 people and made a real basketball show. Four of the teams were from Bulgaria and the other four were from Serbia, Romania, Macedonia and Italy.

The games were quite interesting and attractive and the organization was perfect. All teams were stationed at the 3-star hotel Diana and for them were provided breakfast, lunch and dinner. The organizers were arranged also for transportation from the hotel to the hall as well as to the different cultural attractions in Sofia.

During their free time the organizers were prepared a lot of amusements and cultural shows for the children – Sofia city-tour with panoramic bus, visit to the zoo, museums and churches.
