From the Chancellor’s Desk Dr. P. D. Patil An important objective of the Vidyapeeth is to establish and extensive global knowledge network in order to facilitate the attaining of excellence in its teaching and research programmes. In the case of higher education, internationalization is manifested in many ways including student and faculty mobility, institutional collaboration in developing of curricula, teaching and research and the delivery of educational programmes across national borders. It was accepted that internationalization did offer some benefits in the form of increased access to advanced programmes, addition of an international dimension to curricula and improvement in the quality of education through of example and competition. The higher education needs to be viewed in global perspective. There is a need for global facilitation of higher education. It involves a serious rethinking towards restructuring of higher education to render supreme importance to quality driven innovative, realistic and result oriented teaching –learning practices and research of global standards. There should be greater flexibility in the policy framework to attract international faculty and students. Collaborative researches with international partners will play a major role in strengthening our position on global landscape. Our Universities will have to adopt international outlook and support greater participation of faculty and students in international exchange programmes and other academic events. This in spite of the oft-quoted Vedic exhortation, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakan’ – ‘the whole world is one family’. The educated class is more receptive to change, but even in their case there is a need to explain the rationale behind internationalization. Research is an essential component of a higher education system to ensure it remains vibrant and is quick to respond to and anticipate changes arising is the contextual conditions One of the input parameters to ascertain progress in research is the quantum of spending on research and development activities. Another important parameter to measure research is the enrolment and award of Ph.D.’s. The number of Ph.D.’ awarded in India has doubled over a period of time. Dr. P. D. Patil Chancellor 1 From the Vice Chancellor’s Desk Dr. P. N. Razdan It is my profound pleasure in presenting to you the Eleventh Annual Report of the Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune (DPU) for the year 2015-2016. The present report covers administrative, academic, and co-curricular activities of the University and its constituent colleges/Institutions from 1stJune 2015 to 31stMay 2016. We have often heard that Education makes a man. In today’s fast-paced world, where everything is changing at a rapid pace, it is important that change be brought in the education system also. We at Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune, believe that instead of being localized, the education should be globalized. Global education is a viewpoint that has risen from the fact that modern people live and interact in an increasingly globalised world. It not only provides an opportunity but also enables the students to reflect and share their point of view and role within a global, inter connected society. Global education is something that opens people’s eyes and minds to the realities of the globalised world and awakens them to bring about a world of greater justice, equity, and Human Rights for all. To achieve this purpose, we provide a global platform to our students, where collaboration with international counterparts is done along with interactions with internationally acclaimed guests so that the students passing out from the University have a global vision to their knowledge. Emerging trends in technical and professional education call for value addition, which means that students must acquire something more than what is provided in the curriculum. There is need to enhance their communication skills, to develop professional ethics in them and to help them learn and develop human values and concern for humanity. The constituent colleges/institutions of the University have dedicated mentors and state-of-the-art infrastructure with well-stocked libraries and well equipped laboratories. The programmes being offered by the university are developed in consultation with experts from respective fields. The University encourages its teachers and students to undertake innovative and relevant research to spread value-added knowledge. In recognition to our effort to enhance the quality ambience, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has re-accredited DPU with a CGPA of 3.62 on a four point scale at ‘A’ Grade during the year under report. I wish you all a successful year filled with achievements, professional fulfillment, and growth as we rise to meet new challenges and opportunities for our University. Dr. P. N. Razdan Vice Chancellor 2 Vision 2025 To develop a knowledge centre which will be recognised for its academic pursue not only in India but also globally . Objectives 1. To create institutions for higher education at undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree levels as per the need of the society, in the areas of health, engineering and technology, arts, fine arts, performing arts, science, commerce, education, architecture, pharmacy, management, hotel management and catering technology, travel and tourism, finance, law, agriculture, co-operation, rural development, and such other branches or specializations of learning, as may be considered appropriate from time to time, fully confirming to the concept of the University, namely, University Education Report (1948) and the Report of the Committee on Renovation and Rejuvenation of Higher Education in India (2009) and the Report of the Review Committee for Deemed to be Universities (2009). 2. To carry out instruction and training, distinguishable from programmes of ordinary nature, for making distinctive contributions in the areas of specializations as may be determined from time to time. 3. To create or establish institutions for high quality teaching and research, for advancement of knowledge and its dissemination through various research programmes undertaken in-house by substantial number of full time faculty / research scholars in diverse disciplines. 4. To conduct all the activities, programmes, courses of studies, research, development, examinations, evaluations and those related to smooth functioning of the Institute. 5. To create, conduct and carry out instructions and training in any of the above- mentioned areas, as may be determined from time to time by formal, non- formal, distance, correspondence, open and / or any other mode of learning or instruction. 6. To provide for field research, extension programmes and extra-curricular and / or extra-mural studies that contributes to the development of society. 7. To establish and conduct the colleges and institutions of higher education and of specialized studies, in India or abroad, independently or in collaboration with other organization or organizations. 8. To promote curricular, co-curricular activities, sports activities, etc. for the overall personality development of the students. 3 9. To extend the benefit of knowledge and skills for the development of individuals and society by associating itself with local and regional problems and development. 10. To establish and conduct centres of social changes and extension, provide for health care, promote awareness about personal, community and social health, hygiene and well-being particularly amongst villagers and industrial workers. 11. To make special efforts to promote national integration and preserve cultural heritage, in general, and of India in particular. 12. To generate, promote and preserve a sense of self-respect and dignity among citizens in general, and among weaker sections of society and women in particular. 13. To promote freedom, equality, social justice and secularism as advocated and enshrined in the Constitution of India, and to promote the spirit of intellectual inquiry, pursuit of sustained excellence, tolerance and mutual understanding. 14. To be a catalytic agent in socio-economic transformation by promoting basic attitudes and values of essence for national development. 15. To provide for administrative and financial support, infrastructure and other services for effective and efficient management of the activities of the educational institutions. 16. To modify, amend, amplify, extend, expand or abridge, delete any of these provisions in order to improve, encompass any of the aims and objects in order to serve the Nation and the society better. 17.
