he town celebrated Arbor Day last Friday with several activities. The Lowell Arbor TBoard planted river birch trees by the Unity School, assisted by students. Pictured are Diane LaWarre. Dana and Avery Chase, Jim Hall. Dave Pasquale and Jim Reagan. At the fairgrounds, 24 trees will be planted. Also, the city of Lowell has announced the first ever t4Big Tree Contest" to kick off Lowell being designated as Tree City USA. The east side of the Flat River will be competing f against the west side within the city limits only in two categories, pine trees and hardwood trees. The contest runs through September 28, and the winner will be announced during the Harvest Celebration. Entry forms are available at the city of Lowell web site: www.ci.lowell.mi.us - -• .
