Today, Israel is dependent upon Ben-Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv for almost all of its passenger traffic and most of its commercial traf- fic. When Ben-Gurion closes down, Is- rael closes down. Eilat’s current airport, within the city itself, can handle only relatively small planes. Ramon International, 9 miles outside of Eilat, will now be able to take over if Ben-Gurion closes down. The disad- vantage: The two airports are 210 miles apart. (Jerusalem Post) But He Didn’t Win Israel was a major factor for Eduar- do Artes, one of the major candidates in last month’s Chilean presidential election. He contended Israel harmed “world peace,” and was guilty of “geno- cide” and “ethnic cleansing.” Fortu- nately, he did not win.
