Shakhtar Donetsk will be looking for a repeat of last season's result as they again welcome a Manchester City side whose Group F campaign belatedly kicked into gear on matchday two. • The Ukrainian champions have drawn their first two games and are third in the section, one place and one point behind City, who got off the mark with a late winner last time out. Previous meetings • The teams were paired together for the first time in the 2017/18 group stage, when home sides held the upper hand. • City were 2-0 winners in Manchester on matchday two, Kevin De Bruyne and scoring at the start and end of the second half to secure the points. • Josep Guardiola's side travelled to for their final fixture with a place in the round of 16 already assured, but looking to make it six wins out of six in the section. Instead Shakhtar secured their own place in the knockout stages with a 2-1 victory, goals from Bernard and Ismaily proving enough despite Sergio Agüero's added-time penalty. Form guide Shakhtar • The Ukrainian club's first two games both finished 2-2, Shakhtar twice coming from behind to draw with Hoffenheim on matchday one – the latter's UEFA Champions League debut – before letting slip a two-goal lead at Lyon. • Shakhtar qualified as winners of the Ukrainian league, claiming the title for the 11th time in 2017/18, when they completed a domestic double for the second season in succession. • Quarter-finalists in 2010/11, Shakhtar reached the last 16 of the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League, losing to Roma on away goals (2-1 home, 1-0 away). • Shakhtar won all four of their home matches in last season's competition, beating Napoli, Feyenoord and City in the group stage. • The Donetsk club have lost only one of their last 15 home matches in Europe (W11 D3). They have not kept a clean sheet, however, in any of the last six. • The Ukrainian side have got out of their group in three of their last five participations. • Shakhtar are unbeaten at home to English visitors (W5 D2); the Pitmen's record against Premier League clubs, home and away, is W5 D3 L6. Manchester City • Having opened with an unexpected 2-1 loss at home to Lyon, City won by the same scoreline at Hoffenheim in their second fixture, David Silva scoring the winning goal in the 87th minute. • Josep Guardiola's side finished 19 points clear in the English Premier League last season, picking up a record 100 points – although there was frustration as their European campaign ended against familiar opponents, domestic rivals Liverpool running out 5-1 aggregate winners in the quarter-final. • City have won two of their last four European away games, losing the other two. • The Manchester club picked up six points away from home in last season's group stage, winning at Feyenoord (4-0) and Napoli (4-2) before being beaten at Shakhtar. • City have won only two of their last seven European matches, home and away – losing the other five. • The Citizens' best UEFA Champions League performance was reaching the 2015/16 semi-finals; this is their eighth consecutive appearance in the group stage. • City's record in Ukraine is W1 L2, the victory a 3-1 success at Dynamo Kyiv in the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League round of 16. Links and trivia • Shakhtar's record European defeat was a 7-0 loss at Guardiola's Bayern München in the 2014/15 round of 16. He was named Ukraine's Premier League player of the year in 2007/08, and amassed six league titles, four Ukrainian Cups and the 2008/09 UEFA Cup. • Fernandinho's Shakhtar team-mates included , Yaroslav Rakitskiy, Serhiy Kryvtsov, , Taison, Alan Patrick and Dentinho.

8 FC Shakhtar Donetsk - Manchester City FC Tuesday 23 October 2018 - 21.00CET (22.00 local time) Match press kit OSK Metalist Stadion, Kharkiv Head coach Paulo Fonseca Date of birth: 5 March 1973 Nationality: Portuguese Playing career: Barreirense, Porto, Leça (loan), Belenenses (loan), Marítimo (loan), Vitória SC, Estrela da Amadora Coaching career: Estrela da Amadora (youth), 1º Dezembro, Odivelas, Pinhalnovense, Aves, Paços de Ferreira (twice), Porto, Braga, Shakhtar Donetsk • A central defender during his playing days, he was signed by Porto in 1995/96 but never trained or played for the Dragons as he was immediately loaned to Leça; eventually moved to Vitória Guimarães after further loan spells with Belenenses and Marítimo. • Hung up his boots aged 32 at Estrela da Amadora and started coaching the club's youth teams the following season before taking his first senior job at fourth-tier 1º Dezembro in 2007. • Impressed by guiding third division Pinhalnovense to the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup in 2009/10 and 2010/11, when his side lost 2-0 away to Porto. • Assumed the reins at Aves and steered the northern club to third place in the second division and another cup quarter-final, prompting Paços de Ferreira to appoint him. Rewarded that faith by earning a third-place finish in 2012/13, Paços's best-ever placing in the Portuguese top flight, and a UEFA Champions League play-off berth. • On 10 June 2013 he signed a two-year deal to coach champions Porto, but left the following March. After a return to Paços de Ferreira, led Braga to fourth place in the league and victory in the Portuguese Cup in 2015/16 before replacing the long-serving Mircea Lucescu as Shakhtar coach; won a league and cup double in each of his first two campaigns in Ukraine. Josep Guardiola Date of birth: 18 January 1971 Nationality: Spanish Playing career: Barcelona, Brescia (twice), Roma, Al-Ahly Club, Dorados de Sinola Coaching career: Barcelona B, Barcelona, Bayern München, Manchester City • Known as 'Pep', he came up through Barcelona's youth ranks to win six Spanish Liga titles, one European Champion Clubs' Cup, a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and two Copa del Rey trophies from 1990 to 2001. Also had spells with Brescia, Roma, al-Ahly in Doha and Mexico's Dorados de Sinola before ending his playing career in 2006. Won 47 caps and Olympic footballing gold with Spain in 1992, but missed the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups through injury. • Having coached Barcelona's B team, he took charge of the senior side in 2008 and won the UEFA Champions League, Spanish Liga and Copa del Rey in his first season. That was just the beginning of a glorious four-season spell which yielded 14 trophies. In his second campaign, Guardiola steered Barcelona to a second Liga title as well as the Spanish and UEFA Super Cups and the FIFA Club World Cup. Even more sucess followed in 2010/11 as Barcelona completed a hat-trick of Spanish titles and, for the second time under Guardiola, got the better of Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League final.

• In his final season, 2011/12, Guardiola's team won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup once more before he signed off his reign with a second Copa del Rey triumph. After a year's break, Guardiola took charge of Bayern in June 2013, replacing Jupp Heynckes. • Collected the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, German Cup and, with a record seven games to spare, the Bundesliga title in his first season in Germany. Secured his second successive Bundesliga title the following season, and Bayern again dominated domestically in 2015/16, but all three of Guardiola's UEFA Champions League campaigns in Bavaria ended in the semi-finals. • Opted for a new challenge at Manchester City in summer 2016 and, though the first year in charge produced Guardiola's first trophy-less campaign as a coach, he and City delivered in style in 2017/18, racking up 100 points in winning the Premier League and adding the English League Cup.
