Brewers Association EXPORT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Competition Results 2017 European Beer Star Winners Announced The Brewers Association Export Development Program (EDP) is designed to promote US Craft Beers in targeted global markets through trade missions, shows and competitions such as the 2017 European Beer Star competition. The European Beer Star, now in its 14th year, is one of the most recognized beer competitions in the world, committed to the traditional European art of brewing. The competition evaluates the beers on the basis of purely sensory criteria and is limited to beer categories, which originate in Europe. Sixty Brewers Association Export Development Program members sent 228 beers for the 2017 European Beer Star competition. Sixteen BA EDP members won 30 awards in 21 different categories in the competition. Overall in the European Beer Star competition, there were 2,151 beers entered from 46 countries (39.5% German, 60.5% international). This is an increase of 2.2% more entries compared to the successful prior year. Judging of the beers was done by an international expert panel at the Doemens Brewing Academy in Gräfelfing near Munich, with 133 beer and brewery experts from 26 different countries.
