LAS VEGAS—Citrus Belt’s MARV SARGENT, a former California State Masters Champion and two time PBA Western Region player of the year, tied for 9th in this June’s USBC Na- tional Senior MASTERS Championship. His finish earned him $1,900. After three qualifying squads, 15 games, Sargent was 41st with a 203 average on the flat oil pattern. Peter Knopp of Ger- many was in first with a 219 average, and the great Walter Ray Williams, Jr. was 12th with a 210 average. This was Walter Rays first senior major championship. Sargent began the double elimination finals with three match play wins (three game total pin matches). Marv’s three wins were the result of three game series of 640, 721, and 721. Finally, fac- ing eventual champion Wayne Webb, Sargent lost 682 to 623. Then on the final day of the tourney, Marv was eliminated by 2008 Senior Masters Champion Kenny Parks 632 to 623. Parks eventually finished fourth. JIM MURTISHAW finished tied for 49th and won $950, after being eliminated by eventual runner-up Walter Ray Williams, Jr. 598 to 593. One more strike in the tenth frame of game three would have seen Murtishaw defeating Walter Ray! Other Citrus Belt participants were ZIGGY CZAJA (Fontana), ROSS LARSEN (Riverside), DON MOSER (Murrieta), FRANK WEILER (San Bernardino), and DEWAINE WEST (Temecula).
