An independent look at the best restaurants in and around the city of Derby

2 TASTE DERBY Welcome to Taste Derby With John Forkin, managing director of Marketing Derby

A vibrant food and drink scene is a vital part in Introduction the makeup of any city; it helps makes a place attractive for working, living and visiting. It also brings in new investment and employment. Derby has changed so much over the past few years and there is now an impressive array of eating and drinking experiences available from all over the world –some of which are among the best in the country. This guide challenges you to take a fresh look at Derby’s restaurant scene. We have picked 50 of the best from around the city and I can guarantee there will be ten or more restaurants that you have never heard of but would really enjoy if you were to give them a chance. People often tend to stick with what they know when eating out. We think it’s worth experimenting more to support these entrepreneurs who have added greatly to the experience of the city. It’s a tough time to run any business and the restaurant trade is especially notorious. Some of the guide entries are national outlets but most are independent, often family-owned restaurants who are excellent at what they do but could benefit from having a higher profile. That’s why we have produced this guide. It’s also important to note that no “There’s an amazing array of eating and establishment has paid for their entry. The drinking experiences in Derby.” restaurants are here on merit, based on recommendations from Derby’s business community. We have sifted through the recommendations and compiled this list. The quoted comments on each restaurant have been drawn from real customers based on their visits. Bottom line is there’s a reason why these places have survived and thrived. They have a loyal customer base and we think it’s time to shine a light and share their story.
