DEAR STATION MAKNNAOGWE TRH,E T R U T H P R O M O F R O M R K M E D I A

As believers, we know that every page in the Bible points to Jesus and the message of the Gospel. But sometimes we stumble upon troubling stories in the Old Testament and we don’t know what to make of them. For example, how do stories of genocide and brutality fit into God’s grand narrative?

This February, the Discover the Word team is tackling this topic in a series titled Reading the Old Testament. Invite your listeners to pull up a chair to the table for this important conversation.

No matter what their past experience has been with the first 39 books of the Bible, your listeners will walk away with a deeper confidence in God’s Word. Be sure to encourage young and old to join the Discover the Word team for this enlightening February series.

Heading to Nashville, Tennessee, next month for the National Religions Broadcasters convention?

TITLE Minor Prophet, Major Prayers

DATE January 27 - February 7, 2020

SUBJECT Like us, Habakkuk wrestled with God in prayer. He questioned God’s silence and doubted God’s wisdom. When God withheld what Habakkuk wanted, Habakkuk negotiated for a partial settlement. When God said no, Habakkuk satisfied himself with what God wanted to give – himself. Focusing on God’s character realigned Habakkuk’s prayers and instilled the prophet with great confidence. The book of Habakkuk reveals some major prayers from a minor prophet that can help us as well.

TITLE Reading the Old Testament

DATE February 10 - 14, 2020

SUBJECT What do you do with passages in the Old Testament that can be troubling? Many in our day struggle to know how to respond to texts that present acts of genocide or brutality, among other things. This week, pull a chair up to the table with the Discover the Word group as they look at such a passage (Ezra 10), and see if we can find some handrails to help us work with and even appreciate the value of these inspired, but difficult, portions of scripture.

TITLE Fearfully and Wonderfully

DATE February 17 - 28, 2020

SUBJECT Award winning author Philip Yancey says that Dr. Paul Brand has influenced him personally and spiritually more than any single person. The books they wrote together over 30 years ago (Fearfully and Wonderfully Made and In His Image) quickly became classics and award winners. Philip says he was able to give words to Dr. Brand's faith, while Dr. Brand was giving faith to Philip's words. And this week, Philip Yancey is at the table with the Discover the Word group to go back over those works and explore how the physical body gives us a rich way of exploring how individual Christians and the church can best serve as members of the Body of Christ.
