Prosecution of Research

There have been two principle avenues of research undertaken during the last ten years:

A. Investigation of serum levels of local anesthetic levels following dental injections.

This work was carried out at the London Hospital and involve serum assay following various dental injections. The results were presented at International Association of Dental Research Meetings and have been published.

B. Studies of bacteraemia and serum antibiotic levels and antibiotic prophylaxis against Endocarditis.

The initial work investigated blood culture methods for detection of B haemolytic streptococcal bacteraemia.

Following this work, investigation into the antibiotic prophylaxis of Endocarditis was undertaken and the results have been published. The results of the investigations have resulted in new recommendations being accepted in the .

C. 1991. Controlled double blind trial comparing Benzydamine Spray with a placebo. Trial results are now available and almost ready for submission for publication.
