The Police and Crime Commissioner Election for the West Mercia Police Area, which was postponed from May 2020, will also take place on the same day. My Team has provided extra guidance on items which have been affected by Covid-19 as part of this pack, but should you have any other queries on our Coronavirus arrangements or any other topic during the election period, please contact a member of my Team (preferably by email), who will endeavour to help you with any queries you may have – [email protected]. • Unlocking the Minton Archive Treasure Chest by Loren Zeller
Unlocking the Minton Archive Treasure Chest by Loren Zeller Guardians of Staffordshire’s Ceramic History Destined for almost certain liquidation, the valuable Minton Archive was saved by the Art Fund with other do- nors who jointly raised £1.56m to purchase it from WWRD on 31 March, 2015.* The Archive was immediately gifted to the Stoke City Archives ensuring that it would forever be conserved and available nationally and interna- tionally for the public to enjoy. The Archive contains a treasure trove of items related to Minton's Ltd from its establishment in 1793 by Thomas Minton until the firm was closed 1990s. The Archive also includes thousands of items from the archives of Royal Doulton (which Minton purchased in 1968) along with all the companies it had been acquired by Royal Doulton; an impressive list of more than twenty companies that contributed to Britain’s success in the ceramics industry. The list includes such famous names as Adderley, Booth, Davenport, Paragon, Ridgway, Royal Albert, Shelley and more. The Minton Archive is the name given to the whole of this collection. The Archive is now owned, managed and made publicly accessible by Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on- Trent City Council Joint Archives Service, who will also loan objects to the Wedgwood Museum and the Potter- ies Museum and Art Gallery for display and exhibition. An important number of Minton’s original copper plates City Archivist Chris Latimer and can be found in the Wedgwood Archives. Archivist Louise Ferriday display one * In addition to the grant from NHMF, the campaign received donations from Sir Siegmund Warburg's Voluntary Settlement, The Pilgrim of the pattern books from the Min- Trust, the Bamford Charitable Foundation, the bet365 Foundation, and many other generous supporters.

  • Kemball School Spring 2020 Newsletter
Kemball School Spring 2020 Newsletter Hello Everyone, Well I never thought that we would be ending the Spring term like this, with the whole country on lockdown, worried about catching a potentially deadly virus. These are indeed very scary times. This virus is very serious otherwise the Government would not be taking such extreme steps to protect people from catching and spreading it. With this in mind, as you know, we have made the decision to only open to certain pupils whose parents are either key workers or where, in conjunction with social care, we have identified that children will be at a greater risk by not coming into school. We made this decision for the following reasons: In order to provide a safe environment for our students, we need high ratios of well trained, medically competent, experienced staff who understand your children. With staff illness and their own vulnerabilities I can’t guarantee the same high student to teacher ratios that we need to safely meet the needs of the students. Concerns about the potential risk to the health of our children – if we take the government advice, by the very nature of our school, our children have underlying health conditions that make them vulnerable. Government guidance has identified having a learning need as being a vulnerable category. The Government have seemed to forgotten that having an EHCP won’t protect your child from catching the virus or bringing it back to their family. We are unable to keep a social distance in a school – our students are sociable and have no concept of personal space – we are unable to socially isolate Your child is having close 1:1 personal contact with our staff, particularly if they need physical management, feeding and personal care.
