UEFA EURO 2012 Volunteers Team A volunteer story ... It was my friend Klementyna, a volunteer herself, who encouraged me to embark on the volunteering adventure. For a couple of days during the Qualifying Draw held in Warsaw in February 2010 I was part of the drivers’ team, ensuring comfortable and safe journey of our guests. As the only female driver I was welcomed to the team with extra friendliness. I met many football supporters and even had a chance to drive a legend of Polish football, Zbigniew Boniek, with whom I managed to exchange a few words about... horse racing. UEFA EURO 2012 is a huge event in the football world. Poland and Ukraine have already been visited by many foreign guests, but for some of them it will be their first time in the two countries. Volunteering enables us to give expression to our Slavic hospitality, openness, friendliness and readiness to give a hand whenever needed. Rainer Berak, Ticketing Manager of UEFA EURO 2012 Leader of Friends of UEFA EURO 2012 Volunteers Programme team for Warsaw Marathon How is it to run in Warsaw? I love sport and playing football but I play it really bad. Running is a sport for everyone and it is just great to run on fresh air. What I really love is my route - from the office I head to the river. I can see kids playing football in the playground, I pass through a charming old city, then along the river to Legia Warszawa stadium where I cross the Wisla. Next I arrive at the newly constructed National Stadium. Since my first days in Warsaw I could see the progress of works on it. Then I cross the river and pass near to Polonia Warszawa stadium. I must say that football is everywhere! How will you encourage others to run with the Friends of UEFA EURO 2012 Volunteers Programme team? I believe there are two things emotionally extraordinary. To run in a marathon is an experience that everyone, who is physically capable to do so, should experience in her/his life! The second is a football tournament happening in your country. This is a huge sport event in the world and an amazing experience for host countries. Run with a team of Friends of UEFA EURO 2012 Volunteers Programme team is just a combination of that is hard to beat! And for these of our readers who are the beginners in running? Beginners should keep in mind two matters. First of all you should not get frustrated when starting with short distances. There is no other sport you will see the progress faster than running. Secondly if you are ready to go to longer distances check up for proper training. Running is like implementing EURO – you have to make a right plan and to stick to it, to make things right in right time. Do you have a story to tell about your sports volunteering experience? Write us! [email protected] 5 .

Fot. AIPN ARTYKUŁ Srebrna drużyna Mistrzostw Świata w 1974 r. OKRES HISTORYCZNY (1970-1980) Od Gdańska do Gdańska Autor: ROBERT SZCZEŚNIAK 10.06.2021 Na przełomie lat 60. i 70. polska piłka nożna zagościła na europejskich salonach. Początek temu dały sukcesy drużyn klubowych. Legia Warszawa w sezonie 1969/1970 dotarła do półfinału Pucharu Europy Mistrzów Krajowych, gdzie musiała uznać wyższość Feyenoordu Rotterdam. W następnym sezonie 1970/1971 oba kluby dotarły do ćwierćfinałów analogicznych rozgrywek, gdzie Legia przegrała w dwumeczu z Atletico Madryt, a Górnik ponownie z Manchesterem City. Droga do Wembley Kiedy w grudniu 1970 r.

  • Short Term and Long Term Motives for the Internationalization of Marathon Events
Pamukkale Journal of Sport Sciences 2020 Vol. 11 No. 3, 01-19 ISSN: 1309-0356 accepted: 19.09.2020 Short term and long term motives for the internationalization of marathon events Zsolt Havran 1, Miklós Kozma 1, Tünde Máté 1, Ágnes Szabó 1, Krisztina András 1, Attila Kajos 1, Zoltán Kynsburg 1, Zygmunt Waskowski 2 1 Corvinus University of Budapest, 1093 Budapest, Fővám tér 8 2Poznan University of Economics and Business Correspondence: [email protected] Abstract The current study aims to answer the question of how the motives for internationalization of leisure sports companies can be understood through the example of international running events. We present the phenomenon of globalisation and internationalisation as a context of leisure sports, linking the conceptual frameworks of leisure sports and international business (IB). The paper highlights the characteristics of leisure sports companies in the process of internationalization. More specifically, we examined the global business trends of marathons, with particular attention of event organizers in the Central-Eastern European (CEE) region in our preparatory study. Data about experiences, entry fee, international communication and sponsorship were collected from the eight most significant CEE marathons and two semi-structured interviews were done with event organizers. Our main findings reveal that market seeking and strategic asset seeking motives are dominant in the case of CEE marathon organizers with a notable distinction between short term and long term perspectives. Keywords: internationalization, marathon, Central-Eastern Europe, leisure sports services, motives for internationalisation Pamukkale Journal of Sport Sciences Vol. XX, No. X; 2020 1 1.INTRODUCTION Sports, and in particular leisure sports, play an increasingly important role in society and at the same time, its economic impact is becoming more significant.
