Boris’s sea adventure began in 1989 when he went tuna fishing in the Pacific Ocean and spent the next 9 years at sea (?), until 1998. Upon his return home, he started a new venture and began growing his own fleet of fishing ships. By 2015, he had 3 of them. At the same time, he was running another family business, a small factory for fish processing which is still in operation today. In 2015, Boris and his business partner bought a small cruise ship, Adriatic Queen, which they still own. In 2017, he decided it was time to say farewell to his fishing boats and he sold them. He bought another small cruise ship, Equator, which sailed for his company BALK during the seasons 2017, 2018 and 2019. At the end of season 2019, he sold Equator and began another era in his sea adventure. He started the construction of the new pearl in his crown, a new ship called Adriatic King which sailed for the first time on June 26th, 2021. Boris always includes his family in his businesses. The company name, BALK, represents the initials of the Bakija family: Boris, Anita, Lovre and Katarina. aDRiatiC King EXteRiOr aDRiatiC King CaBInS aDRiatiC King BathrOOmS aDRiatiC King SaLOn ChaRter aDRiatiC King Charter the whole ship for one week and create your own custom made adventure Contact Alida Paljevic at [email protected], for dates, rates and details ADRIATIC KING CHARTER PRICE PER WEEK IN USD SATURDAY DEPARTURE DATES 2022 PRICE 04/30; 05/07; 05/14; 05/21 $58,255 05/28; 06/04 $62,525 06/11; 06/18; 06/25; 07/02 $65,575 07/09; 07/16; 07/23 $54,065 07/30; 08/06; 08/13; 08/20; 08/27 $51,240 09/03 $54,065 09/10; 09/17; 09/24 $65,575 10/01 $62,525 10/08 $58,255 PRICE INCLUDES: - 7 nights/8 days cruise - Members of the crew (cruise director at additional cost if requested) - Room service every day, changing of the towels every day, and bed linen twice per week - Fuel for a maximum of 6 hours sailing per day (Except for route from Rijeka to Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik to Rijeka) - Generator and air-conditioning all day/night long MEAL PLAN AND SIGHTSEEING IS QUOTED SEPARATELY, PER PERSON UPON REQUEST aDRiatiC QuEen aDRiatiC QuEen FeaTuReS Year of construction: 2017 Length: 35.2 m / 115.5 feet Width: 11 m / 36 feet Cabins: 15 Capacity: 31 passengers Speed: 18.5 kmh / 10 NM Jacuzzi & Sun deck with sunbeds Salon/Restaurant & Bar Cabins with private bathroom, A/C & LCD TV Free Wi-Fi on board ADRIATIC QUEEN UPPER DECK LOWER DECK aDRiatiC QuEen CReW OUR STORY The Pedišić family comes from the island of Pašman. For generations, our family has always had strong bonds to the sea since my grandfather was a fisherman and my father was a captain on transoceanic ships. Living with them taught me how to live with the sea and love it and it was precisely that love which led me to choose a fisherman’s life. In my twenties, I bought my first fishing ship, Jadran III. At the very beginning of my career, I noticed big flaws in Croatian fishing, so I decided to try to innovate some necessary changes. I founded the first association of the fishing trawlers whose main goal is to improve the sustainability of sea resources through cooperation between the fishermen and the scientists. While seeking improved processes in fishing, I have always looked for new types of business and I found the perfect one in ecological touristic trawling. Touristic fishing offers the tourist the opportunity to get to know how professional fishermen work and at the same time, it is approved by organizations like UNDP and GEF. My well-run business allowed me to buy another ship which carried the name of my grandfather. With the help of EU funding, I dismantled my fishing ship Ljubo and I decided to buy a small cruise ship with that money. In 2017, together with my business partner, I bought Adriatic Queen in Greece and that is how I took a new path in my life. My long-term experience as a fisherman gives me knowledge of some well-hidden and extremely beautiful spots of the Adriatic which I can show to our guests. The proof of great work and high-quality service is the prize for Best Ship which we obtained for season 2019. Our highly professional crew is the key to maintaining our top-quality service level. Our crew is made up of my family members: my wife Antonija, my 2 sons, Danijel and Petar, who work together with Miloš, the best chef in the fleet, Ante, the best waiter you’ll ever meet and last, but definitely not least, Karmen, our omni-present housekeeper. We invite you to be a part of the Adriatic Queen family and to experience some unforgettable moments in the most beautiful spots in the Adriatic. As a child, I spent my holidays with my uncles and grandfather on their boats on the sea and ever since then, I dreamed about living the life they lived. Although my first business was a successful pizzeria, all I could think of was the Adriatic and the ship. Every single penny I saved was put aside for buying my future ship. Although people made fun of me and laughed at my plans, I made my dream come true in 2013 when I bought my first ship, Nerezine. Nerezine will be 100 years old this year. Every winter, I spent whole days working on Nerezine and a new idea and plan grew in my mind: to have a new ship. I spent so much time and effort thinking about the ship’s design and its functionality, since I really wanted my ship to be different from all other ships on the Adriatic. In 2018, my wish to have a ship, as well as a unique design, was recognized by Denis Teskera who supported the construction of Bella. We made an agreement in a mere five minutes and ever since then, we grew not only a business relationship, but also a true friendship. On June 29th, 2019, Bella sailed for the first time and my dream became a reality! During the past seasons with both of my ships, I have gained lots of experience and many friendships, but most important, I learned what my guests need to have a perfect vacation. • A Unique Type of Archaic Oral Poetry
Oral Tradition, 6/2 3 (1991): 200-224 Bugaršćice: A Unique Type of Archaic Oral Poetry Josip Kekez Historical and Geographical Defi nition In the context of oral literature, bugaršćice1 represent an important and unique genre in many respects. They are, among other things, striking proof that oral literature is not simply a discovery of the nineteenth century—as was long maintained in South Slavic regions—and that two literatures, oral and written, were in contact from the earliest times in a number of ways, including the manner of their recording and study. On the other hand, we would know nothing of the genre in question and its aesthetic values if interest in oral literature had not existed from the beginning; many passages in the early literature of Croatia would have forever remained obscure, while Croatian poetry of the present day would have assumed a different profi le. Scholars have not so far taken suffi cient account of the fact that the poetic system of the bugaršćica is distinctly indigenous and in many of its features remote from other verse forms of oral literature; nor is there evidence that it existed at any time or in any national community or setting other than those discussed below. Apart from one or two examples, all bugaršćice have been recorded on the eastern Adriatic strip from Istria in the north to the Gulf of Kotor in the south, so that they are geographically strictly defi ned. One poem was recorded on the western side of the Adriatic, in southern Italy, but it was sung in their own language by settlers from the eastern side of the Adriatic.

Tourism Introduction Zadar County encompasses marine area from Island Pag to National Park Kornati and land area of Velebit, i.e. the central part of the Croatian coastline. This is the area of true natural beauty, inhabited from the Antique period, rich with cultural heritage, maritime tradition and hospitality. Zadar County is the heart of the Adriatic and the fulfilment of many sailors' dreams with its numerous islands as well as interesting and clean underwater. It can easily be accessed from the sea, by inland transport and airways. Inseparable unity of the past and the present can be seen everywhere. Natural beauties, cultural and historical monuments have been in harmony for centuries, because men lived in harmony with nature. As a World rarity, here, in a relatively small area, within a hundred or so kilometres, one can find beautiful turquoise sea, mountains covered with snow, fertile land, rough karst, ancient cities and secluded Island bays. This is the land of the sun, warm sea, olives, wine, fish, song, picturesque villages with stone- made houses, to summarise - the true Mediterranean. History of Tourism in Zadar Tourism in Zadar has a long tradition. The historical yearbooks record that in June 1879 a group of excursionists from Vienna visited Zadar, in 1892 the City Beautification Society was founded (active until 1918), and in 1899 the Mountaineering and Tourism Society "Liburnia" was founded. At the beginning of the XX century, in March 1902 hotel Bristol was opened to the public (today's hotel Zagreb). Most important period for the development of tourism in Zadar County lasted from the 60's - 80's of the 20th century, when the majority of the hotel complexes were erected.

  • The Krk Diocese
THE KRK DIOCESE THE ISLES SHALL WAIT FOR HIS TEACHINGS O I R E T S I IN M T I E N IO ORAT FOREWORD The centuries-long presence of Christianity on the islands of the Krk Diocese is deeply rooted in the life and culture of its population, which has been subject to a succession of various social orders during the course of history. Until the year 1828, there were three dioceses within this territory: Krk, Osor and Rab. The presence of a bishop and his relationship with the people had a strong impact upon spiritual formation and identity. The pas- tors of the small dioceses of the Kvarner Islands demonstrated magna- nimity and openness of spirit toward the beautiful and modern, while at the same time listening to the “pulse” of the people, incorporating their language in worship. The beauty of handwritten and illuminated Glagolitic missals, psalters and antiphonals greatly enriched the corpus of liturgical literature traditionally written in Latin. Christian culture, both spiritual and material, is reflected here in the arts of painting, architecture, literature, poetry and music. This is a Church distinguished by its priests and religious, especially the Benedictines and Franciscans, including those with the reputation of saintliness, who have played exceptional historical roles in the raising and fostering of national consciousness, enhancement of the quality of life, education in moral principles, and the creation and safeguarding of the cultural heritage. These values provided a firm foundation for assuring the survival of this nation under changing conditions, not infrequently im- posed by fire and sword.

MENTAL MAPS IN THE SERB-CATHOLIC IMAGINATION IN DUBROVNIK Abstract This article describes the experience of the community of Serb-Catholics living in Dubrovnik in the early twentieth century. It is based primarily on an investigation of the literary and cultural periodical Srdj (1902–08). This study focuses, fi rstly, on the conceptual ambivalence resulting from efforts to apply linguistic criteria to determine Serbian identity and, secondly, on the efforts to construct a mental map that would serve projections of Serbian symbolic territory. While the presence of the Serb-Catholic milieu in the city was short-lived (from the mid-nineteenth century to the First World War), it nevertheless left traces on the urban landscape that typifi ed the ambivalent formation of national identity along religious lines, as Croatians were associated with Catholicism and Serbs with Orthodoxy. Keywords: Serb-Catholics, Dubrovnik, Dalmatia, nation-building, Serbia, Habsburg monarchy I INTRODUCTION A glance at the map of the Habsburg Monarchy following the Aus- tro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 reveals emphatically just how peripheral a place Dalmatia (offi cially the Kingdom of Dalmatia) had in the Empire. Dubrovnik had an even less important position. This once wealthy commune that had competed with Venice in terms of status was now located at the periphery of a periphery, squeezed into a narrow isthmus between the Adriatic and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Owing to its exceptionally rich culture – which is evident both in the cultural landscape (architecture) and in writing (in documents from the past and in literature) – Croatians and Serbians alike, as well as Italians http://dx.doi.org/10.12775/APH.2020.121.07 144 Maciej Czerwiński in some sense, have staked claims to Dubrovnik.

COUNT IVAN ANŽ FRANKOPAN, THE ROYAL STEWARD OF THE ESTATE IN SWEDEN 1426 - 1434 Mladen Ibler Within the framework of medieval history of Europe and its own geostrategic location, Scandinavian royalties and nobility entertained contacts with central and western Europe. Less known however, is the relationship between Eric of Pomerania, the King of the three Scandinavian realms and the Croatian nobility of Frankopans. This paper attempts to provide the short description of the conditions in Croatia and Scandinavia at the beginning of XV century, the relationship between Eric of Pommerania and count Ivan Anž Frankopan, and the role of the Republic of Dubrovnik (Ragusa) during King Eric’s travel on his way to the Holy Land 1424-5. Based on Dubrovnik, Budapest, Vatican, and Scandinavian sources, a special emphasis is beeing given to the events surrounding Ivan Anž Frankopan’s visit to Sweden. In Venetian and Scandinavian sources, he is reffered to under the name of Gian Franchi and Johan Franke. Due to this reason, historians have been unaware of the real identity of King Eric’s steward of the estate (fief) Stegeborg in Sweden 1426-34, count Ivan Anž Frankopan. Key words: Frankopan, Ivan Anž; the King Eric of Pommerania; Stegeborg; Kalmar Union I. The Kingdom of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia has been in personal union with Kingdom of Hungary since 1102. Its main parts, Dalmatia and Croatia were governed by a viceroy (Ban), and Slavonia, as the third part, was governed by its own viceroy. In the beginning of the fifteenth century the Kingdom was the object of fight between King Ladislas of Naples and his rival Sigismund of Luxemburg.
