  • FIAT-Sting + Shaggy
Contact: Diane Morgan Alyse Nagode Fiat 124 Spider Abarth Takes Starring Role Alongside Sting & Shaggy in “Gotta Get Back My Baby” Music Video November 9, 2018, Auburn Hills, Mich. - The Fiat 124 Spider Abarth takes a starring role alongside Sting & Shaggy in the official music video for their new track “Gotta Get Back My Baby,” the latest single, co-produced by Teflon (Wyclef Jean, Fat Joe, Ruff Ryders) and Martin Kierszenbaum (Sting, Mylène Farmer, Lady Gaga), off their album "44/876," which has spent 17 weeks atop the Billboard Reggae chart. The official YouTube music video, which amassed over 2.3 million views in just a few days, was filmed in the vein of ‘80s and ‘90s buddy cop television series and movies, including “Miami Vice” and “Bad Boys,” and was directed by Michael Garcia. The video pairs Sting and Shaggy as two Miami detectives who convince their captain that they’re “going to need the Spider,” meaning his prized Fiat 124 Spider Abarth, as part of their South Beach stakeout for “the most dangerous woman in the country.” What could go wrong?! The FIAT brand is also supporting the video globally across its digital and social channels, including in the U.S on Instagram,Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. “We continue to strive for the unexpected in our marketing efforts across all FCA brands and, certainly here, the FIAT brand’s fun-spirited personality gives us the opportunity to be just a little bit more adventurous and playful in our approach with our music partners," said Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer and Head of the FIAT Brand, FCA.

  • An Afternoon with Porgy and Bess Tuesday, Dec
College of Arts and Sciences College of Arts and Sciences ORIN College of Arts and Sciences GROSSMAN AN AFTERNOON WITH PORGY AND BESS TUESDAY, DEC. 8 • 5 p.m. click here to learn more about the artist Porgy and Bess was George Gershwin’s greatest labor of love and his most controversial masterpiece. When it opened on Broadway in 1935 it was attacked on all sides for its racial themes, its dark plot, the use of operatic devices such as recitative, and its length. The opera’s treatment of African American life has always stirred controversy, yet the opera contains Gershwin’s greatest music, some of which is familiar to everyone. This presentation explores the story of Porgy and Bess and the fascinating history of its life on the stage. It will include a performance of “Summertime,” “My Man’s Gone Now,” “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” and “Bess, You Is My Woman Now” in special arrangements by the great American pianist, Earl Wild. Orin Grossman has been delighting audiences the world over with his unique approach to performing and explaining great American and European music. As a performer he is in demand as an interpreter of the music of George Gershwin, playing his songs and classical compositions around the world, including Italy, Egypt, Australia, and Russia, where he performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and gave the Russian premiere of Gershwin’s Second Rhapsody with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic to a standing ovation. Dr. Grossman graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a bachelor’s degree in music.

  • Effective Questioning and Classroom Talk
Effective Questioning and Classroom Talk To develop learning & higher order thinking, promoting imagination, speculation, creative thinking & to pitch a suitable challenge level Asking questions is natural and intuitive. Teachers ask questions from the start of the lesson until the end. Asking questions forms part of any lesson because it invites the student to think, and even within a ‘lecture’ style lesson, rhetorical questions are used to invite silent agreement or begin the organisation of ideas to present a response. Research suggests teachers ask over 400 questions a day. Teachers use questions to engage the students and sustain an ‘active’ style to the learning. The teacher also uses questions as part of the assessment of learning in order to determine how they best structure, organise and present new learning. However, research has found that many teachers wait only for 0.9 seconds before seeking an answer. Developing questioning approaches, requires much greater emphasis on the time provided for students to think individually, collaboratively and deeply to enable them to develop answers and to share better answers. This will improve their thinking and engagement. Historically, teachers have asked questions to check what has been learnt and understood, to help them gauge whether to further review previous learning, increase or decrease the challenge, and assess whether students are ready to move forward and learn new information (factual checks – ie ‘Closed’ questions). This can be structured as a simple ‘teacher versus the class’ approach (Bat and Ball), where the teacher asks a question and accepts an answer from a volunteer, or selects/conscripts a specific student to answer.
