And while the drafted rookies enter the NFL from a variety of different backgrounds, one thing they generally all have in common is an outstanding experience playing high school football. A total of 242 high schools contributed to the 254 players selected in the seven rounds of the Draft on April 25-27. Two high schools – ALLEN (Texas) and COCOA (Florida) – had three players selected, while 10 high schools – BOOKER T. WASHINGTON (Oklahoma), BRIGHTON (Utah), EDEN PRAIRIE (Minnesota), IMG ACADEMY (Florida), MIAMI KILLIAN (Florida), PARADISE VALLEY (Arizona), SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS (Florida), WAKE FOREST (North Carolina), WENONAH (Alabama) and WINTON WOODS (Ohio) – each had two players selected. The breakdown of the 12 high schools that had multiple players drafted by NFL clubs: HIGH SCHOOL TOTAL PLAYERS (NFL TEAM/ROUND) Kyler Murray (Arizona/1); Greg Little (Carolina/2); Bobby Evans (Los Allen (Allen, TX) 3 Angeles Rams/3) Jawaan Taylor (Jacksonville/2); Jamel Dean (Tampa Bay/3); Cocoa (Cocoa, FL) 3 Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (New Orleans/4) Booker T. Led by NFL Legends MARK BRUNELL, TRENT DILFER, MAURICE JONES-DREW, WILLIE McGINEST, JORDAN PALMER, CHAD PENNINGTON, MICHAEL ROBINSON, DEION SANDERS and BOBBY TAYLOR, the Committee will generate inspiring conversations with youth and high school football communities about the values learned from playing football. Robinson, along with San Francisco 49ers sixth round selection TIM HARRIS, attended Varina High School in Richmond, Va. “I love the game of football and want kids of all ages to have the opportunity to participate in it,” said McGinest, who attended Long Beach (CA) Polytechnic, the same school as Baltimore Ravens fourth round selection IMAN MARSHALL. “I joined the NFL Legends Youth Advisory Committee to help young people learn the game in the right way, with the proper coaching and guidance. For me and the way I teach the game, football is not just about X’s and O’s. It instills foundational principles – principles that have guided and directed me during each important step of my life. Football opened up multiple opportunities for me and kept me on the right course. It saved my life. By playing the game, kids also learn not only about football, but so much more – accountability, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline and responsibility. It’s about skills and lessons they too can apply for the rest of their lives.” STATES WITH DOUBLE-DIGIT PLAYERS DRAFTED STATE TOTAL Florida 34 Texas 27 California 22 Georgia 13 Ohio 13 Louisiana 10 Mississippi 10 North Carolina 10 STATES WITH MOST NFL PLAYERS DRAFTED IN 2019 PER CAPITA STATE POPULATION * NFL PLAYERS NFL PLAYERS PER CAPITA Mississippi 2,967,297 10 1 NFL player per 296,730 people Louisiana 4,533,372 10 1 NFL player per 453,337 people Utah 2,763,885 5 1 NFL player per 552,777 people Florida 18,801,310 34 1 NFL player per 552,980 people District of Columbia 601,723 1 1 NFL player per 601,723 people UNITED STATES 308,745,538 253 1 NFL player per 1,220,338 people * Based on most recent U.S. Census Data (2010). • NFL Draft 2019 Scouting Report: WR D.J. Montgomery, Austin Peay
2019 NFL DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT MARCH 31, 2019 NFL Draft 2019 Scouting Report: WR D.J. Montgomery, Austin Peay *WR grades can and will change as more information comes in from Pro Day workouts, Wonderlic test results leaked, etc. We will update ratings as new info becomes available. *WR-B stands for "Big-WR," a classification we use to separate the more physical, downfield/over-the- top, heavy-red-zone-threat-type WRs. Our WR-S/"Small-WRs" are profiled by our computer more as slot and/or possession-type WRs who are typically less physical and rely more on speed/agility to operate underneath the defense and/or use big speed to get open deep...they are not used as weapons in the red zone as much. As soon as I saw the Pro Day numbers come in, I had to jump in and do a study to see if there was something hot here – D.J. Montgomery reporting in at 6’1+”/201 with a 4.43 40-time, 1.52 10-yard split, a 6.69 three-cone, and 37.5” vertical. Just going by measurables, those are 1st/2nd-round draft pick numbers. After my deeper research, sadly, I had to call off the dogs a bit. Montgomery is still a prospect that should be a very early call after the draft, and I’ll explain why in a moment, but I was hoping to get blown away when I started watching the tape and looking at the numbers – and I wasn’t. Let’s talk about the bad, and then get into the good/promising… Montgomery was a JUCO star who only leveraged that into going to play for FCS Austin Peay.

  • Friday, May 3, 2019 Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer
Friday, May 3, 2019 Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer Good to have you all back, it’s been a while. It’s my favorite time of the year. It was nice to get to players out here today, get a little workout. Walk through this morning with practice this afternoon. We should have three good days, and I’m looking forward to watching these guys work. Try to figure out how they learn, try to figure out how they interact with the rest of the team and how they accept coaching, things like that. We’re excited about it, a bunch of good draft picks. Q: Is there much of a difference in seeing Irv Smith Jr. here in person as opposed to watching him on tape? A: Well you always like to see them with your own eyes. I know we had someone down at the Alabama workout, but I wasn’t there. But it’s just good. [Dru] Samia, he looked huge to me today, just maybe because he’s been on the banquet circuit too, I don’t know. Just looks bigger than he did on tape. Sometimes you get some of those kind of things. Q: What would your message be to undrafted free agents trying to catch on with the team? A: First of all, I told them last night, every year we sign somebody from here, whether it be Adam Thielen or Chad Beebe or Marcus Sherels, the list goes on and on. Really what I told them last night is that we’re looking for guys that number one are good people, and number two, they have to have athletic ability.
