The OCPHC was the national host for The Last Mango in Irvine Party. Word of the party went out on the club Facebook page and a pre-concert tailgate was planned near the event. Several club members joined the official Club RV to help prepare for the party. Much to our surprise, more than 10 additional RVs from all across the country joined us to get ready and gear up for the concert. Our old friend Jimmy Groovy showed up in costume and added to the pre-concert fun. Once inside the parking lot, Jerry Gontang played to the huge crowd In This Issue around the OCPHC event site. A.J.’s famous Cheeseburgers in Paradise were on the grill all were partying just like Bubba does in Pg 1: Last Mango in Irvine preparation for the concert. Once inside the venue, Jimmy and the CRB did not disappoint. The 26 song set included a tribute to Jimmy’s Pg 2: Andy’s Irvine Letter friend, Glenn Frey of The Eagles, who recently passed away. CA: You’ve had some time to process the show and maybe decompress. What are your Robert Deaton thoughts in hindsight? RD: A lot of credit needs to be passed around because there are so many people – starting with the artists – who make it happen, but I feel like this was our best effort.     WHO'S WHO AT MUSCLE SHOALS SOUND RECORDS 1000 Alabama Avenue, P.O. Box 915, Sheffield, Ala. 35660 (205) 381-9200 Muscle Shoals Sound Records was more or less the natural extension of what had become one of the most successful production organizations in the business. The four principals of the production company, Jimmy Johnson, Barry Beckett, David Hood and Roger Hawkins made up what became the legendary "Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section". Jimmy and Roger met while playing in local bands at school dances and clubs along the state line. They were later members of an early 60's group called the Delrays. At the same time David Hood was playing in a group called the Mystics. Johnson was the first to move into studio work when he began working with producer Rick Hall as an engineer and their session guitarist. By 1964 Jimmy and Roger were working regularly at Fame Studios with the occasional assistance of David Hood, when Hood could get away from his father's tire store a block and a half away from the studio. In 1966 Hawkins and Johnson played on their first million seller, "When A Man Loves A Woman" by Percy Sledge. In 1967 Barry Beckett came to Muscle Shoals to cut "I'm Your Puppet" by James and Bobby Purify. It was about that time that Spooner Oldham, the Muscle Shoals keyboard player, decided to move to Mem- phis. Shortly thereafter, Barry Becket and his family came to Muscle Shoals and the Rhythm Section was formed. By the late 1960's there were 3 studios in Muscle Shoals and the Rhythm Section was working at all of them.

They played on Arthur Alexander's "You Better Move On" (the first R&B hit out of Muscle Shoals), followed that with Jimmy Hughes' chartbuster "Steal Away" and later, on numerous hits by Tommy Roe and by The Tams, including "What Kind of Fool".
