Print: Reprosentralen, University of Oslo All photos by Ross Halfin © All photos used with written permission. 1 ”Quiet please, it’s a bloody opera!” Aknowledgements I would like to thank my supervisors Ståle Wikshåland and Stan Hawkins for superb support and patience during the three years it took me to get my head around to finally finish this thesis. Thank you both for not giving up on me even when things were moving very slow. I am especially thankful for your support in my work in the combination of popular music/performance studies. A big thank you goes to Siren Leirvåg for guidance in the literature of theatre studies. Everybody at the Institute of Music at UiO for helping me when I came back after my student hiatus in 2007. I cannot over-exaggerate my gratitude towards Rob Lee, webmaster at www.thewho.com for helping me with finding important information on that site and his attempts at getting me an interview with one of the boys. The work being done on that site is fantastic. Also, a big thank you to my fellow Who fans. Discussing Who with you makes liking the band more fun.

  • TOTO Bio (PDF)
TOTO Bio Few ensembles in the history of recorded music have individually or collectively had a larger imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. As individuals, the band members’ imprint can be heard on an astonishing 5000 albums that together amass a sales history of a HALF A BILLION albums. Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the performances with 225 Grammy nominations. Band members were South Park characters, while Family Guy did an entire episode on the band's hit "Africa." As a band, TOTO sold 35 million albums, and today continue to be a worldwide arena draw staging standing room only events across the globe. They are pop culture, and are one of the few 70s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles, and 35 years in to a career enjoy a multi-generational fan base. It is not an exaggeration to estimate that 95% of the world's population has heard a performance by a member of TOTO. The list of those they individually collaborated with reads like a who's who of Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, alongside the biggest names in music. The band took a page from their heroes The Beatles playbook and created a collective that features multiple singers, songwriters, producers, and multi-instrumentalists. Guitarist Steve Lukather aka Luke has performed on 2000 albums, with artists across the musical spectrum that include Michael Jackson, Roger Waters, Miles Davis, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, Don Henley, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick and many more. His solo career encompasses a catalog of ten albums and multiple DVDs that collectively encompass sales exceeding 500,000 copies.

When I was about four, my Dad taught me the line ‘A drum, a drum! Macbeth doth come.’ He was an engineer and not at all a theatre man, but he could quote passages from all of Shakespeare’s major plays, and did so from time to time all his life. That line become my favourite, more so than any nursery rhyme, and I would drive my family crazy by saying it over and over again. It is exciting to be hearing these words again in the MTC rehearsal rooms. This production of Macbeth will be many students’ first experience of a live Shakespeare production, and I hope it inspires a love for his imaginatively brilliant language and storytelling. The first Shakespeare I ever saw performed was Queensland Theatre Company's The Taming of the Shrew at Brisbane's SGIO Theatre as part of a school excursion.

Here we are. We are thrilled to welcome you into this new home, our creative process, and into this new year of hope and possibility. It has been a long journey, and we are so grateful for the artists, staff, board, supporters, interns, and all of you. Tonight you’ll experience a virtual performance in two parts. First, it is an Attack Theatre open house – in your house. While we look forward to the time when we can all gather together, we’ve crafted this adventure to share our new space and the creativity that enlivens it. If you’ve ever been to an Attack Theatre performance, you know that we design interactive curtain speeches that center the humanity of each performer and offer the audience a lens to view the work. Why should this be any different? We invite you to participate to your interest and desire. The second part of the performance is the world premiere of the new dance film, | : |. When we began this project with Janessa Clark months ago, we approached the collaboration as a process of reflection, a creative lab for new ways of working during a time of isolation, and as an intentional space for new voices. With Janessa we found a collaborator, an imaginator, and a friend.

Shure Notes Issue #35 - Miking Drums - The Basics And Beyond Print this article There's the conventional. Now what about the advanced? HOW-TO: Drum Miking Basics - A Conventional Approach We talked to three drummers whose approaches to drum miking are as different as their musical odysseys. First, TIPS FROM THE PROS: Rascal Flatts' Jim Riley. Next, ex-Pat Metheny Group sideman and groundbreaking percussionist Paul Wertico. And Simon Phillips, Jim Riley, Paul Wertico finally, British touring band favorite Simon Phillips, currently living in the USA working on his own solo projects. WHO ARE YOU? SN 2009 Reader Survey PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: DMK 57-52, NEW SM27 and SM137 Bandleader, Rascal Flatts drummer Jim was born in Boston, Massachusetts and from an early age, showed real interest in music. He began his formal studies of percussion at the age of twelve, the same year he began singing with the Youth Pro Musica choir. In high school, Jim studied with Boston Symphony percussionist Arthur Press. He attended the University of North Texas, where the studied drums with Ed Soph and timpani with The Dallas Symphony's Kal Cherry. In 1995, Jim moved to Kansas City. While recording with local guitarist Jeff Scheetz, he took a job with Kansas City Drumworks, building and selling custom drums. There, Jim began his long relationship with The VPR Creative Group as a writer and performer with the Sticks of Thunder percussion ensemble. In 1997, Jim made the move to Nashville.
