Fish Monitoring - Southern Victorian Rivers The core objective for fish monitoring in VEFMAP Stage 6 for coastal rivers is to examine the importance of environmental flows in promoting immigration, dispersal and subsequent recruitment of diadromous fish. There are two key evaluation questions for fish in coastal Victorian rivers, which were developed in collaboration with CMAs. Adopted by Wyndham City Council on 26 October 2015. SUMMARY Indicators suggest that the health of the Werribee River is poor, particularly in its lower reaches. This is primarily due to low flow rates downstream of the Werribee Diversion Weir and large amounts of litter entering the River from stormwater drains between Shaws Roads and the Maltby Bypass. Although some research is occurring at the river estuary, there is currently no water quality monitoring points downstream of the Werribee Diversion Weir. This is a concern as the lower reaches of river are in the worst condition and suffer from blue-green algal blooms due to high nutrients and low water flow. Council is not directly responsible for the health of the river. This responsibility lies with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), Melbourne Water and regional water utility companies. There are however still opportunities for Council to promote and address some of the health challenges facing the river. Recommendations to Council made in this report include: 1. Advocate to the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water, and/or the Victorian Environmental Water Holder to increase environmental flows using yet-to-be-allocated water at Lake Merrimu. 2. Advocate to the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water, DELWP, the Victoria Environmental Water Holder and Melbourne Water to increase the percentage of water allocations for environmental flows and/or fund water recovery purchases. 3. Advocate to Melbourne Water to create additional water quality monitoring points downstream of the Werribee Diversion Weir. 4. Advocate to DELWP and the relevant waterway management authorities to facilitate a forum focusing on the future of the Werribee River with the aim of enhancing partnerships and identifying opportunities to work together to improve the health of the River. -

Response to the Renewable Energy Zone Development Plan Directions Paper I am contacting you to provide feedback on the State Government of Victoria REZ Development Plan Directions Paper with specific reference to the Western: V3 Project, the Western Victoria Transmission Network Project (WVTNP) North Ballarat to Bulgana. This project involves constructing a 500kV overhead transmission line from North Ballarat to Sydenham. The project has been identified in the REZ Development Plan Directions Paper as having a ‘High Risk’ of delivery for the following reasons: • Project within greenfield area therefore vegetation clearing required. • Infrastructure close to sensitive areas • Conflicting land use • Potential conflicting regarding future residential development. • Potential community concerns regarding increased visual impacts and environmental impacts. The proponent for the WVTNP, AusNet Services, has identified an Area of Interest (AoI) and has further narrowed potential corridors, one of these is immediately north of Darley between existing residential and the Lerderderg State Park. I am the spokesperson for Darley Power Fight, a group representing communities in Darley, Coimadai and Merrimu, Victoria. We are in full support of Renewable Energy Zones provided associated projects are delivered through effective stakeholder consultation with consideration of communities, the environment, and economic impacts. The current regulatory framework does not consider the projects disbenefit and only considers project cost versus economic benefit -

Courtesy WGCMA The West Gippsland region is diverse and characterised by areas of natural forest, West areas of high conservation value, fertile floodplains for agriculture, as well as having Gippsland major coal deposits and the Loy Yang, Hazelwood and Yallourn power stations. Region Three river basins form the region – Thomson (basin 25), Latrobe (basin 26) and South Gippsland (basin 27).
