  • Big 12 Conference Schools Raise Nine-Year NFL Draft Totals to 277 Alumni Through 2003
Big 12 Conference Schools Raise Nine-Year NFL Draft Totals to 277 Alumni Through 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Apr. 26, 2003 DALLAS—Big 12 Conference teams had 10 of the first 62 selections in the 35th annual NFL “common” draft (67th overall) Saturday and added a total of 13 for the opening day. The first-day tallies in the 2003 NFL draft brought the number Big 12 standouts taken from 1995-03 to 277. Over 90 Big 12 alumni signed free agent contracts after the 2000-02 drafts, and three of the first 13 standouts (six total in the first round) in the 2003 draft were Kansas State CB Terence Newman (fifth draftee), Oklahoma State DE Kevin Williams (ninth) Texas A&M DT Ty Warren (13th). Last year three Big 12 standouts were selected in the top eight choices (four of the initial 21), and the 2000 draft included three alumni from this conference in the first 20. Colorado, Nebraska and Florida State paced all schools nationally in the 1995-97 era with 21 NFL draft choices apiece. Eleven Big 12 schools also had at least one youngster chosen in the eight-round draft during 1998. Over the last six (1998-03) NFL postings, there were 73 Big 12 Conference selections among the Top 100. There were 217 Big 12 schools’ grid representatives on 2002 NFL opening day rosters from all 12 members after 297 standouts from league members in ’02 entered NFL training camps—both all-time highs for the league. Nebraska (35 alumni) was third among all Division I-A schools in 2002 opening day roster men in the highest professional football configuration while Texas A&M (30) was among the Top Six in total NFL alumni last autumn.

One of my most vivid early childhood memories comes from the fall of 1972 when, as a five year-old, I was reading the sports section of one of the Dallas newspapers at my grandparents’ breakfast table. I am not sure how much I comprehended, but one fact leaped clearly from the page—Nebraska had defeated Army by the seemingly incredible score of 77-7. Wild thoughts raced through my young mind. How could one team score so many points? How could they so thoroughly dominate an opponent? Just how bad was this Army outfit? How many touchdowns did it take to score seventy-seven points? I did not realize it at the time, but that was the day when I first understood concretely the concepts of multiplication and division. Nebraska scored eleven touchdowns I calculated (probably with some help from my grandfather) and my love of football and the sports page only grew from there.

  • NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE LOCAL FOOTBALL ATTRACTION NFL Fans Have Passion for Their Local Home Team
NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE LOCAL FOOTBALL ATTRACTION NFL Fans Have Passion For Their Local Home Team By Michael LaSardo | VP TV Station Solutions | Katz Media Group YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A FACE PAINTER TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT If you find yourself at a Patriots game at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, the passion that fans have for their home team would be unmistakable. Same deal if you visit Chicago for a Bears game at Soldier Field. And most certainly in Seattle at the Seahawks’ CenturyLink Field. The fans in Seattle are affectionately dubbed the “12th Man” because their vocal support of their team can be such a game changer. This passion for local teams translates into ratings for local television audiences. And it’s not limited to the home markets that these teams represent. NFL teams have local fan bases that expand beyond the invisible DMA lines. When broadcast and cable air the exact same game, it’s broadcast stations with the HH audience advantage. Your instincts might tell you that an NFL team’s fans would most likely reside in the market in which the team plays. Well, our findings reinforce that hunch. Katz Television Group assigned each of the 32 NFL teams to a “home” DMA that’s measured using a Nielsen meter (Local People Meter or HH Set Meter). These 32 teams call 29 markets home. Three markets - New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco-Oakland - each have 2 local teams. This metered assignment of teams allows us to look at Nielsen Live+SD HH Ratings for all NFL games across the entire 2018-19 regular season.

TEXAS A&M FOOTBALL Postgame notes: No. 24/25 Texas A&M at Texas Tech Saturday, October 8, 2011 * Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, Texas AGGIES PREVAIL WITH ANOTHER HUGE SCORING OUTBURST VS. TECH Texas A&M won its third straight game against the Red Raiders on the strength of another big scoring night. In the three‐game winning streak, the Aggies went over 40 points in every game and averaged 46.3 points. A&M’s 45 points tonight were the second‐most ever scored by the Aggies in Lubbock, behind only the 52‐point outburst in 2009. It’s the first time A&M has won three in a row against Tech since the early 1990s when A&M won five straight from 1990‐94. It’s also the first time A&M has won consecutive games in Lubbock since 1991 and 1993. It’s the third time A&M has won consecutive games in Lubbock since the Bear Bryant era in 1950s. NO TAKEAWAYS, NO PROBLEM The Aggies couldn’t muster a takeaway for the fourth straight game, while withstanding a school‐record 105 offensive plays by the Red Raiders (old record was 99 plays by Texas in 1968). ANOTHER UNIQUE DOUBLE FOR TANNEHILL Quarterback Ryan Tannehill passed for 188 yards, which pushed him past the 3,000‐yard plateau in career passing yards. According to FX research, that makes Tannehill the first NCAA Football Subdivision player with over 3,000 passing yards and 1,500 receiving yards in his career. It is Tannehill’s second unique double: He is also the only FBS player with a 400‐yard passing game (447 vs.

The Skype sessions were invaluable and the level of encouragement was incomparable. Likewise, I wish to thank Lucy Bennett for giving up so much of her time to read and provide feedback - I honestly appreciate it so much. I would like to extend my thanks to my admin' buddies at Swansea University for refraining from telling me how awful I looked in the mornings after nights of interrupted 'sleep', and particularly to Jenny, for going through it with me and providing the buckets of tea. To my wonderful Willit, who somehow appreciated that not every day was a walk day. To my brother, Rob, and my boyfriend, Adam, for managing to be both annoying and supportive in equal measure. To my best friends, Amy and Mair, for all the texts, phone calls, and wine. I'll whine less from now on, I promise. And lastly, but - as is ever the case with these things - most importantly, to my wonderful parents, for never questioning me, always supporting me, and encouraging me despite not really having a clue what I was writing about.
