You will need the ingredients on the recipe; a 7, 8- or 9-inch single layer will only need ½ of a recipe. Cake board or dish Craft sticks, off-set spatula, or butter knife Food dye Buttercream or 1 can of pre-made frosting Pastry bag with a “V” cut out at the bottom or a leaf tip Rubber band Scissors Small portion store bought fondant (optional) Parchment paper Knife Extra powdered for rolling Rolling pin Disposable Gloves

BC Yummy Fondant Ingredients: 2 lbs. confectionary sugar ¾ cups vegetable shortening 1 cup light corn syrup 2 teaspoons vanilla extract ½ teaspoon salt

Directions:

Place powdered sugar and shortening in a large bowl. Using one hand, crush shortening into the powdered sugar until equally-divided. Slowly add in remaining ingredients; start by stirring with a spatula, and then knead the mixture to form a dough using your hands.

Store fondant wrapped in plastic wrap and placed in an airtight container at room temperature.

Facts:

Avoid any water – this will destroy the fondant.

If it is too dry, add vegetable shortening in small amounts.

Sticky? Add in confectionary sugar!

Store in airtight container wrapped in plastic at room temperature.

For dark colors such as black, navy blue, and brick red; work cocoa powder into the fondant to make it brown, then add food dye.

Flavoring fondant; fondant takes on any flavor- switch vanilla extract for orange, lemon, or almond.

Remember, make sure your work surface is dry and free from any crumbs or it will end up in your fondant.
