RIP.IE June 2020 Tipperary the Death Has Occurred of Andrew (Andy RIP.IE June 2020 Tipperary The death has occurred of Andrew (Andy) Birrane Terenure, Dublin / Rearcross, Tipperary Birrane, Andrew (Andy), formerly of The Two Sisters and Devitts, Dublin, and late of Foileen, Rearcross, Newport, Co Tipperary, June 29th 2020, (peacefully), after a short illness at Tallaght Hospital. Brother of the recently deceased Breda Hickey. Deeply regretted by his brother-in-law Joseph, nieces Kathleen and Brigid, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends. Reposing this Wednesday evening at McCormack's Funeral Home, Kilcommon for family and friends from 6 o' clock to 8 o'clock.Funeral Mass Thursday at 12.30 o' clock at The Church of the Visitation, Rearcross with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. In line with the latest HSE and Government advice the number of people in the church will be limited to 50. Please adhere to the guidelines on social distancing. He writes as if from the top of Lisgorrif Hill looking down on the broad expanse of the two Ormonds with Lough Derg bordering them to the left? .The poem is simply called, ‘The place where I was born’ ‘O’er hill and mountain, vale and town, My gaze now wanders up and down, Anon my heart is filled with pride, Anon with memory’s gentler tide ‘ Of sorrow, until through them all The twilight whispers softly call From upland green and golden corn “It is the place where you were born”.

    Clonmel Advertiser. 20-4-1822 We regret having to mention a cruel and barbarous murder, attended with circumstances of great audacity, that has taken place on the borders of Tipperary and Kilkenny. A farmer of the name of Morris, at Killemry, near Nine-Mile-House, having become obnoxious to the public disturbers, received a threatening notice some short time back, he having lately come to reside there. On Wednesday night last a cow of his was driven into the bog, where she perished; on Thursday morning he sent two servants, a male and female, to the bog, the male servant to skin the cow and the female to assist him; but while the woman went for a pail of water, three ruffians came, and each of them discharged their arms at him, and lodged several balls and slugs in his body, and then went off. This occurred about midday. No one dared to interfere, either for the prevention of this crime, or to follow in pursuit of the murderers. The sufferer was quite a youth, and had committed no offence, even against the banditti, but that of doing his master’s business. Clonmel Advertiser 24-8-1835 Last Saturday, being the fair day at Carrick-on-Suir, and also a holiday in the Roman Catholic Church, an immense assemblage of the peasantry poured into the town at an early hour from all directions of the surrounding country. The show of cattle was was by no means inferior-but the only disposable commodity , for which a brisk demand appeared evidently conspicuous, was for Feehans brown stout.

But it must be noted that there is a John Skehan who died 18th May, 1804, aged 77, and is buried at St. Johnstown with other members of the family: but he however would be too old to be same person as above John, and is perhaps the father of Walter (a). It was, I would say, about the year of 1912 that I first commenced to take an interest in Irish political affairs. I was then. about twenty-three years of age, and I became a regular reader of Arthur Griffith's weekly paper, "The United Irishman", and some of the other weekly or monthly periodicals which expressed views of a similar nature and which were then in circulation. I was particularly impressed by articles written by P.R. Pearse which appeared in these papers, and probably thus influenced, I found myself opposed to the policy of John Redmond's Irish Parliamentary Party. In my native district. of Ballylooby, with the exception, I might say, of myself and my companion, a man named O'Donnell, who subsequently emigrated to America. and went to his eternal reward there, the people as a whole then gave their political allegiance to this Irish Parliamentary Party, and anyone who opposed or criticised the policy of the Party was looked upon, if not as foolish, at least as odd in his political views. A company of Redmond's Volunteers, or the National Volunteers as they were called, was: formed in Ballylooby in 1914.

Thurles Municipal District – Draft Budgetary Plan 2021. Mr. Liam McCarthy, Director of Services introduced Ms. Noreen O’Dwyer who has been appointed as Acting Financial Management Accountant. Copy of the Thurles Municipal District Draft Budgetary Plan 2021 was circulated by email on 8th October, giving the required 7 days notice, and was also circulated with the Agenda in accordance with Section 102(4A)(b) of the Local Government Act, 2001. Mr. McCarthy outlined the Thurles Municipal District Draft Budgetary Plan for 2021 to the Members and highlighted the following:- • The GMA sets out the discretionary funding that is allocated to each Municipal District. 19th. October 2020 • The GMA does not replace the main strategic, non discretionary expenditure of the Council. The total provisional allocation for the General Municipal Allocation for 2021 is €952,530 comprising €602,530 (arising from the decision to increase the Local Property Tax at the September Meeting and allocate 50% of the increase to the GMA) and €350,000 of an allocation similar to last year.
